What are your Top 5 War films?

Relax? I am not upset :)

When I see "war movies", it means to me movies about nothing but fighting. Schindler's List does not fit that category even though a great movie.

Anyways, any love for Casualties of War from anyone???
i was referring to your "stay on topic" remark, Dex. don't know if i misconstrued you, if i did, apologies

You were there in 04, right? I may have told you, but in case I didn't -- every time we drew a new Bradley (because those ****s blew up 8 of ours that we deployed with [out of 16 -- just crazy], to one extent or another -- they would be deemed a "catastrophic loss" even with a mere crack in the hull) it was from 3rd ID -- the same Bradleys that supported you guys.

The 11M's (drivers) would scribble **** in the drivers hatch, and always it would say "**** Fallujah" lol

You guys kicked *** there, man. Much respect, Marine.
Yes Nov 2004. We used walking behind the Bradley's because it was so warm. Only patrol people would volunteer for point lol

The Deer Hunter
Apacolypse Now
The Thin Red Line
Full Metal Jacket
Tigerland

I've never seen tigerland.
Zulu is a good flick if your a Michael Caine fan.
I don't recall the name of the war movie that had Richard Burton laid up crippled with a lost para trooper looking at a dead German he shot who had his jack boots on the wrong feet/ longest day? I think in typical British aplomb they had the ' bagpiper' tune up " BLACK FEARSOME " for the bridge assault,,is that all in the same flick?
I've always been partial to Humphrey Bogart in Sahara , All Quiet on the Western Front, Kelly's Heroes, AND every episode of combat with Vic Morrow!
(Sheese! Only 5?,,,, the deer hunter! Rates in a formulative mentally scarring category all its own)
Then that gene Hackman /Bat-21
And another Michael Caine flick where the Japanese had speakers strung in the trees and they were beating feet back to their line in a barren kill zone after doing the whole 10 yards of escape and evade Through the Jungle, only to die in the zig- zag dash at the end?
(Sheese!,,,ONLY 5?)
How about that Leonardo DiCaprio movie the Revenant?
Or Dustin Hoffman's little big man?
(Sheese!,,, only 5 movies?)

The first half hour may be the greatest accomplishment in film-making history, but the end was forced. I mean really, why not blow the bridge and get everyone out alive? It accomplishes both sets of orders without almost everyone dying.
I gotta agree about the first 15-30 minutes of that 'saving pvt.Ryan',, the .30 cal. garand and carbine I had out on the floor cleaning them while watching that? ,,,whew! Stuffed those f**Ker's behind the couch,PRONTO!

As a Marine, Full Metal Jacket is my favorite. The closest depiction of Marine Corp boot camp ever by any movie. I was at Parris Island boot camp in 75 and on fire watch. We were 1st phase so on the 3rd deck. It was about 2am and one of the recruits went out on the ledge and started screaming I want to die, I want to die!. I woke up the Drill Instructor who came out with his smokey hat and boxers and a t-shirt and started yelling at the guy, ******* jump, just ******* jump!

:lmao2::lmao::lmao2:
Absolutely hilarious in the TRUEST FASHION my fellow Devil Dog brethren!
I was San Diego 79, we had two Mexicans (couldn't speak Zero English go over the wall in about 3 days after receiving our M-16A1 rifles,,, those two skippers TOOK THEIR RIFLES WITH THEM:lmao2:,, I tell you no lie.)

Watch Tigerland, Melon!

Yeah, The Deer Hunter is ******* insane.

I try and separate those that wanted to tell the truth of what the movie was about to those that want to make a statement. And how hard they try to be accurate.
Band of Brothers for WW2 (as mentioned Saving Private Ryan had a stupid ending though Omaha Beach should be required viewing in every High School senior class)
Gettysburg for Civil War
All Quiet on the Western Front (70's remake) for WW1
Vietnam - Full Metal Jacket (see the DI with Jack Webb for a fantastic boot camp movie)
There really has not been anything for either Desert Storm or Later that was really all that great
The Crossing for Revolutionary War though the Patriot was really good
Das Boat and Stalingrad (1993) to me are the absolute best non us war films.
