And what if Fredrick doesn't surplant Costa at center and is starting as right Guard, then what will be your take...that would make the trade and pick a disaster

Costa didn't look like the Costa of his rookie year when he was on the field last year.

I'd hold out a little hope that he may offer something.

I wouldn't be surprised to see this kid end up at right-guard and not center.

I think when this draft is over Dallas will come away with 2-3 solid day one contributors.

I'm hoping we land 4 starters. I think it can be done.

One down. 3 more to go.

20 Yard Shuttle-
Travis Frederick 4.76
Jonathan Cooper 4.84
Menelik Watson 5.01
Larry Warford 5.10

3 Cone Drill-
Jonathan Cooper 7.78
Travis Frederick 7.81
Kyle Long 7.83
Menelik Watson 8.31

He's as quick as cooper. Just doesn't have the 40 time and I could care less about that.

Good find...have to look at more than just the 40 time.

I think he means day one as start of the season not the draft.

What would the other three be?

I assume one would be a safety.

That still leaves two more.
Another Oline maybe?

That still leaves one.

Any RB or WR would not be a starter.
Any Dline player would not start--but hopeflly would get in the rotation at some point soon.

These measurements mean more for a lineman than the 40 yard times. Makes me a feel lot better.

Yea, how many games did he play? 1 or 2? Did he even play one full game? Costa is a liability but we will plug him right in at center and pray his back doesn't go out on him and that he doesn't hike the ball over Romo's head.

he is already better than Costa; he will be a substantial upgrade at that position; not so much at either guard slot.

In the end though value and compensation don't line up on Sundays.

It doesn't?

Resources line up on Sundays. Hence, losing resources in a trade affects your Sunday line up.

However, that 18th pick was devalued because of what was left. I believe that's what Stephen hinted at in his comments. And I agree with that. If it was devalued as much as the compensation reflects is the question. My answer is no.

Um, how is landing a starting guard and a high third a "disaster?" Goodness people.

he was drafted to play center, and you think he can be a pulling guard when he's the slowest offensive linemen drafted in the last twenty years. He's a zone guy and when he gets to the second level he finds himself on the ground to many times because he's that slow and has to reach..his position has to be center and he better beat that spare Costo out..

The kid looked good at guard, but looks like he can be a force at C.

He's shockingly strong. Now, add Warford next to him and it's not even fun. They could push a driving truck backwards.

Going from Costa to Frederick is like replacing a pitcher with a DH at the plate.

I won't dispute the reach but he's an instant and huge improvement to the team.

it depends, was the pitcher in question, Babe Ruth? of course not, it was probably some bum from the Houston Astros who can't even find his way to home plate, be it to bat or to pitch......

I agree. On film he looked really good at center.

He will be much better against nose tackles than chasing linebackers in space. It was a need based pick.

I still don't understand the Shariff Floyd thing if they had him in the top 5. I can better understand if they just said "he looks great, but we have never seen an NFL guy have success with 31.5 inch arms. We thought he was too high risk for our team and we can't afford a Glen Dorsey or Sedrick Ellis."

We should have traded up for Star or Richardson- they were in range.

What makes you think that they had Sharrif Floyd in the top 5? Because Mike Mayock had him going #3 overall?

If you listen to the Press Conference it sure sounded to me like Monte Kiffen didn't view Floyd as an ideal fit for his style quick twitch 3 technique. Personally I was excited when I saw Floyd falling and I thought we would definitely draft him at #18. But, I trust Monte Kiffen's judgement over who will fit best in his defense than I do Mike Mayock. And I have no doubt if my mind that had Monte Kiffen told Jerry Jone he wanted Floyd that he would have been then pick at #18. But it does not appear that Kiffen felt that either Floyd or Sly Williams where ideal fits for his 3 technique.

This kid CAN play guard, but the only way he starts at guard is if Costa comes out in his Superman PJs at training camp. Let's not just focus on Costa's blocking; how about all those lazy, floating, erratic shotgun snaps?

Frederick's snaps are described as accurate with good velocity. That alone is worth something after what we've put up with from Gurode and Costa.

I think you might be surprised how much better our guard play looks when they get a second year and a healthy training camp and are playing beside a real Center.
