You have to make a decision before the 5th league day of 2021. After that, he's guaranteed $7.2 million.
You'd like to trade him but at this point, there would probably be no takers. The only option is to cut him. It's a large dead money hit in a year where you may have some cap issues, but it does save $400K on the cap. Normally I'd say no, given the cap issues, but if you are really trying to shake up the defense this offseason, he might be a bullet you need to bite.
Once your team has evaluated Jaylon -..and assuming it's not gonna be another Tyron Crawford favor bias charity case again
You have to decide if there's anything salvagable with Jaylon. And there's anything scheme wise that can help stand him out and make
him more of a difference maker.
- But what is it that Jaylon does well ? What area does he stand out ?
vs Run ?
vs coverage ?
Blitzing ?
- From what i have observed in his game - he flat works best when he can move forward, ..and he flat has to be freed up to make any kind of play
If he a blocker whether OL, TE or FB get their hands on them ... he's done for. He gets stuck on blocks, doesn't shed well and doesn't rift thru
traffic well at all.
- Coverage? every time you see him in man coverage, always with his back to the ball, and frailing his arms of the receiver.- and Jay can be vulnerable
to screen plays and will occasionally blow assignments
Foes know how weak he is in coverage and the better teams imposes game plans.
- Blitzing ? this new Nolan scheme and a move to the OLB role was supposed to emphasize his blitzing skills. But thus far he's been
a non factor there. He flourished there in college- but at NFL, backs have been stone-cold him He cannot/doesn't beat blocks !
