What coach would even want to come here to start over?

Didn't even hit me until now. I guess you could bring Mike back. But how enticing is this job if you are selling a rebuild? A rebuild with Jerry of all people?

I've been banging the drum of start over from scratch......what coach would even want to come here to start over?
This job will always be highly coveted. The premise of “start from scratch” is something that Jerry or Stephen likely never has interest in

Meh, none matters but a guy who will turn the organization on its head, and Jerruh won’t let that happen again.

We keep looking for some guy who can overcome the Jones chaos and still win, but no coach so far has been able to.

Really, unless you want a payday, any coach must know the Jones Boys will undercut your message and authority at every turn, think themselves smarter than you, make some dumb decisions based off of some feeling they have, and then get angry when you can’t win it all and act surprised because in their eyes the team and organization are perfect, because they built it, regardless of the fact we have near 3 decades of failure .

The next coach must have major decision making authority, that s why I would like Harbaugh.

Honestly I don't think it matters. I don't think Jones can not only accept the fact MM needs to go, he won't go so far as to fire him.

I'll be surprised is 2024 season opener doesn't find him right back on the Cowboys sideline.
I’ll be shocked if Jerry fires Big Mac. Not because he doesn’t deserve it but because Jerry does not think like most top shelf football people.

Losses like Sunday- the worst playoff loss in Cowboys history - will not disturb Jerry Jones enough to “do whatever it takes” to get back to the playoff successes of three decades ago. If it did, he would not still allow himself and his giggling son to run this thing.

Jerry hates change. He hates to hire a HC. Because he hires his HCs first and foremost not based on who gives us the best chance to win the playoffs but based on his personal comfort. Who will allow him to micro manage the team? For that reason alone, he hates to make a change. I will be shocked if JJ fires Mac although he should.

Very enticing. We have a pretty dang good roster. The spot light all the time. Most teams hiring a HC have bad rosters

Young coaches would jump at the chance ....even some mid level coaches.

It's actually a very secure coaching gig: you come in with low expectations....and your window to make the team good is way longer than hiring a coach for an already good team.

Like....whoever gets hired in Carolina....as long as he is nice to the owner, keeps a low profile, is liked by the QB and helps the QB slowly show signs of improvement, that coach could string together several losing seasons and still keep his job, as long as they were showing signs that they're heading in right direction

Why do we always end up with guys no one else want though?
Because the ownership puts a limitation on what type of candidate will be considered. Jones will only consider someone who will allow him (JJ) to be the face of the team, to continue to do radio shows, press conferences outside the locker room after games, often saying things that are in conflict with what the coach is trying to preach, have an open door policy with the players that allows them to go over the head of the coach, sit in on game planning meetings, hire the coach's assistants, etc. A good coaching candidate with options is not going to take a job with this sort of anchor tied to them.

This thread is dumb. This isn't a rebuild. The Jones' aren't going anywhere and neither is Dak. The sooner that's accepted the better off you guys will be.

Things don’t need to start over. There is talent on this team. They aren’t the Panthers or Bears.

If Jerry let Jim Harbaugh come in and do whatever he wanted, this team would be in the NFCCG within like 3 years.

Maybe that’s true for fans. But we’re talking about what’s best for the Cowboys, not the fans. Isn’t that what the owner of this team should be doing? What’s best for the team?

Who was the last HC here that Jerry let do whatever he wanted?

No team that just went 12-5 and won their division with 9 All-Pros is going for a full rebuild.

I say that rationally, not because I wouldn't mind seeing it happen.

Honestly I could see them going after BB as a way to try and sell the fanbase that under him, the defense will be so good that Dak will be good enough to win with. Some suckers here will jump all over that lollipop.

A young coordinator trying to make a name for themselves
About 80% of qualified coaches would want the gig, if I had to guess.
The ones that would want to be coach and GM (or the ones that realistically hope for that) would not though.

Aren‘t the best coaches the ones who expect to have full control?

Coaching in Dallas is a high profile job. People would work here.
