Some good anti Jerry posts floating around which got me thinking about the scene in Dumb and Dumber when Jim Carrey is getting rejected by Lauren Holly and uttered that often used line “…so your saying there’s a chance….”

Anyhow, it a sad state so might as well dream a bit. What could make the Jones family sell? In my opinion there is a non-zero chance one or more of these things might happen.

1. Scandal they can’t run from
2. Jerry leaves this earth and Stevie is not all in
3. Houston wins a Super Bowl and the league gets annoyed with Jerry and puts a team in San Antonio
4. Private Equity goes “full ******” and pays $15B for the team
5. More circling the drain which forces a major fan and alumni backlash
6. Texas Oil money comes knocking and convinces Jerry to sell
7. Team operating revenue takes a dirt nap and Jerry grabs the remaining value while he can
8. Father and son ego war

Anyhow I think any of these are viable. So what I am saying is there’s always a chance.

Thoughts? Thank you.

1 (Scandal they can't run from) For some reason I can picture them coming out and confessing that they always didn't try as hard enough as they could to build good teams etc, could see fans getting lawyers and filing lawsuits against them for emotional distress!! The Cowboys have taken multiple years off of people lives, and we should be compensated for it

One thing: Being forced out by the league owners for some scandal or violation of league policies. Something akin to how Dan Snyder was forced to sell.

It will never happen because of the fans because he doesn’t care a lick about Cowboys fans anyway. Being forced out because of a scandal is about the only way.

As long as Jerry is on this planet he will never sell without being forced to.

Only valid option I see is #2 unfortunately. Should have made this a fun poll lol

My reasoning:
1. Already had many of these and they still are in charge
2. I could definitely see Steve getting tired of the attention and scrutiny. He already looking as old as his father. Plot twist, and no I don't wish death on anyone, but what if Stevie went before Jerry? Hmmmm.....
3. Nah Jerry has done enough to stand pat as an owner just like Bengals before this offseason
4. Jerry cares more about having this team than anything in life imo
5. Not strong enough argument - gotta be Snyder or Sterling level to be ousted
6. Too old to go back just like the Landman show lol
7. Won't happen, he's got more events planned for that stadium till kingdom come
8. Very valid.. but Stevie knows who wears the pants

I doubt Snyder was bluffing when he said he had dirt on Jerry…of which I’m SURE there’s plenty…but he covers himself well. Probably has standard NDAs in his jacket pocket. I don’t see a scandal coming, although I’d love to see him fully humiliated.

I’ll have to settle for the on field stuff to provide the humiliation. These next few seasons are going to be rough, unless you think Dak on one leg is gonna work out well. Barring miracles, this is a 5-7 win team for the foreseeable future.

At that point the 86 year old laughingstock will have a decision to make.

Jerry will never sell, so it would have to happen after his passing. I see two realistic options.

1. As stated above, private equity offer that is too good to refuse. Possible.
2. Family infighting over the trust and a group forms a majority and forces a sale. Probable.

This gives me a glimmer of hope for the future.

An exercise in futility.
Some answers can be entertaining. We need some fun before the draft. Been a bit boring lately.

There are a few possibilities.
Like the infighting of family control.
This team is Jerry's toy. The family is along for the ride. They all may not want to continue with his passion for another 30 years.
Then after a while, after he is gone a few years, some one makes an offer they can't refuse.

I’m holding out hope that the Saudis make him an offer he can’t refuse.
Maybe that prince friend, or sheik or whatever he was that he took on the field back in the 90's.
Didn't Jimmy tell him to get him off the field, supposedly, according to urban legends.

Maybe he can make an offer.

100% correct!

A realistic possibility if the other owners never force Jerry Jones or his DNA kids to sell?

Answer: #4 (and more likely a higher bid than that)

Inheritance taxes but I would be real surprised if that hssnt been handled by some kind of pre payment or trust.

It can be divided up as such, yes in trusts and gifts to minimize the taxes.
Remember the stadium really belongs to Arlington. So only his own net worth will be accounted for, but sale of the team, which could involve stadium rights.

This is the IRS rules for taxes.

While state laws differ for inheritance taxes, an inheritance must exceed a certain threshold to be considered taxable. For federal estate taxes as of 2024, if the total estate is under $13.61 million for an individual or $27.22 million for a married couple, there's no need to worry about estate taxes.

So break that down to different family members some may not get taxed, say a great grand child inherits $10 million, so no taxes.

A legit scandal would be far away the number 1 reason. Perhaps when Jerry is no longer here there's a power struggle and Gene thinks it's best to sell. However, the family is so entrenched here, it's hard to imagine that unless Jerry specifically calls out to sell. Everything is likely already setup with carved out roles for everyone.
