I can't remember if we gave up a first and third or 2 firsts and a third. Do we have our first round pick in the next draft?

What did we give up for Roy Williams? Too darn much IMO.

I don't believe in giving up multiple picks, including 1st rounders, for WRs. They just aren't that important. Jerry seems to be in love with big name WRs though and has made more trades for them than for any other position if I recall.

We haven't developed a top WR that we drafted since Michael Irvin, and he was drafted before Jerry bought the team.

We have drafted 19 WRs since Jerry bought the team and the only ones that have done anything for us are Alvin Harper, Kevin Williams, and Patrick Crayton, and none of them were all that except Harper who made a nice compliment to Irvin.

Jimmy Smith & Willie Jackson went on to have success elsewhere and Antonio Bryant seems to have figured things out finally. The rest either didn't make it at all in the NFL or played a handful of games as backups and/or STs guys.

Eventually, we are going to have to draft a WR early and develop him.

I would have to see if I can find all the WRs we have traded for and what we gave up for them, but just going by memory, there were a bunch and it was a LOT.

We got Roy and a 5th or 7th with that trade.....but I kind of agree. It is disheartening that we gave up 2 firsts for Gallowaste, all those picks for Roy, and yet the Pats only gave up a 4th to get Moss. Anyone in their right minds knows Moss is better than the other two combined, at least productivity wise......and yet, not only did we pass over him in the draft, but we passed over him in that trade......and instead live with giving up 4 picks higher for 2 WRs, than the 4th rounder spent to get Moss.

Roy is my favorite WR, but still, he wasnt worth what we paid. I wouldnt care about paying that price if we didnt have the OL and DL holes we still have....or if we would have drafted better in 2009.

I cant believe you left KMart off that list.....he was my favorite for a long time.

BTW, I agree about WR being overrated. The Pats won 3 SBs in 4 years with a bunch of JAGS. The Ravens won the SB with JAGS. The Bucs won the SB with JAGS.

TO = 0 Rings
Moss = 0 Rings
Ocho Cinco = 0 Rings
Glenn = 0 Rings
Galloway = 0 Rings

Harrison = 1 Ring
Ward = 2 Rings

It isnt like it was in the 70s-90s when having a top WR meant you have a great chance to win SBs

Rice = 4 Rings
Stallworth = 4 Rings
Swann = 4 Rings
Irvin = 3 Rings
Monk = 2-3 Rings
Pearson = 1 Ring

Kelvin Martin was drafted in 1987, prior to the Jerry Jones era.

Galloway got hurt and ultimately ended up playing on very bad teams with bad QB play. Otherwise nobody would complain.

Moss ended up going to peanuts because he was a dog in Oakland. He played like crap and acted like a turd. He went to a good team with a great QB and had a great yr, then disappeared in the postseason and they lost the super bowl.

If Roy has a big yr this yr and becomes a solid #1 WR, he was worth what we gave up for him, without question.

The thing about that list is that the ones with rings all had GREAT teams around them, they weren't the only stars on those offenses.

A WR can put you over the top, but he can't carry the load. The only player in the NFL who can carry a team is a QB.

I'm not a fan of trading first round selections because it handicaps the draft too much, IMO.

But we did, the third round pick was one we had added via previous trades and lower than our own third.

The biggest reason I'm happy with the Roy Williams trade is that it got Terrell Owens off the roster.

I pulled for Owens to do well here because I want the team to do well, but I always felt things would end badly. Having Williams allowed us to jettison Owens and put the focus back on team.

Will it work?

We're about to find out starting tomorrow.

This is the correct answer. The pick we got back was Detroit's 2009 7th.

The Cowboys traded TE Brandon Pettigrew, WR Derrick Williams, and RB Aaron Brown for Roy Williams and a seventh that ended up being traded to Atlanta.(DT Vance Walker-practice squad)

The Cowboys probably would have used the 1st and 3rd to trade up for WR Jeremy Maclin since Jerry was interested in doing that with the 2nd round pick and future picks.

So then we would have been relying on a rookie to be the #1 WR for the team. Or who knows Jerry may have kept TO.

And who were those picks by the Lions in the 1st rd and 3rd rd that the Cowboys gave up?

I would still complain even if he would have been a Pro-Bowl player for us. 2 1st round picks for anyone other than a franchise QB is too much to give up IMO.

Moss ended up going to peanuts because he was a dog in Oakland. He played like crap and acted like a turd. He went to a good team with a great QB and had a great yr, then disappeared in the postseason and they lost the super bowl.
Yep, Moss went cheap because he had lost a lot of value the previous few years.

If Roy has a big yr this yr and becomes a solid #1 WR, he was worth what we gave up for him, without question.

If Roy ends up as a Pro-Bowl player for us then he would be worth the 1st round pick we gave up for him but not that plus the 3rd rounder. Again, I just do not value WRs that highly and do not believe in trading multiple high picks for one no matter how good he is.

But that's just my opinion of course, your mileage may vary. :D

If they didn't trade them then it was:

1st round, #20 TE Brandon Pettigrew, Oklahoma State
3rd round, #18 (82nd overall) WR Derrick Williams, Penn State

We have no idea how these players will turn out yet so there is really no way of knowing whether they made out on the deal or not. I also assume that we might have taken different players with those picks if we would have held onto them so there is really no way of knowing "what might have been".

Who would you have rather had with that the 1st and 3rd?

Certainly not the guys the Lions picked.
