The only thing that separates from probably the two best defenses in the nfl is our pass coverage.
I'll even throw the Packers in there for now.
We all play a 3-4 first of all. And I would say among all those teams, we have the best pass rush.
So what separates us is the coverage.
And that brings us to whats wrong with our coverage.
I think we have pretty good corners. Probably not as good as Green Bay, but maybe just as good as New York had, and probably better than Baltimore.
So keying on Baltimore and New York.
I think the differences is safety and linebacker play. We really need our rookie linebackers to step up and improve our nickel coverage, and with their speed I really think they can do that. But I think thats where Jerry Jones mentioned changes at inside linebacker.
That said I think we all know that the safety play needs to improve. Gerald Sensabaugh being healthy I think is clearly an improvement for the year. He played strong when he was healthy, despite his performance in Minnesota. Not sure he is the answer, but I know he would be better next year. I don't know if you draft a safety to at least play behind Sensabaugh, or if we already have that safety on the team.
Hamlin on the other hand is just not a playmaker.
Improving base coverage just makes the team that much better.
Our pass coverage improved a great deal by removing Anthony Henry and Roy Williams/Keith Davis/Pat Watkins.
It can be even better if we get another cornerback to fight for the 4th cb position with Ball, and obviously a coverage free safety.
