What do the Jets and Ravens defense have that we don't?

I don't think its a problem except for the lack of turnovers. Only one CB plays the ball and turns his head for the ball. Now that's on the DB coach first and the players second.

The LB pass coverage could be better.

The thing with that is the one that does Jenkins and he was coached from a rookie with Campo and Sensabaugh who was also a rookie under Campo in Jax also makes plays on the ball.

T-New and Hamlin have always shown bad instincts and that is on the player.

personally, i thought that the last third of the season our defense was playing lights out.

even taking last season in whole, we were ranked around number 2 in the NFL in points allowed - which imo is the most important stat for defense.

besides giving a round 1 pick for a bethea, for example, may be to move a guy like newman to fs if (big if) the staff thinks that scandrick is ready to take newman's current cb position. otherwise, i still say go via the draft and get a top cb with ball skills and who is a reliable tackler and move him to fs.

i'm leaving e thomas out of this equation because i honestly don't see the cowboys spending additional picks to move up.

I am sorry but Dave Campo is not the problem with our defense.
I said Dave Campo was the problem with our Defense?

No, I went back over my last 4000 posts and I have never said that. How far back should I go looking for where I made this claim?

Having an Ed Reed patrolling the middle of the field helps too.

Is he an example of how the safety position is like the FB? Or is he a tremendous asset because of his playmaking skill?

Thats the only thing missing from this defense, a ballhawk.
Ed Reed does not play for the Jets and never has.

Dennis Thurman's teachings and examples for their secondary. I am being dead serious. He is the best DB Coach in the NFL, bar none. I will never forgive Jerry for not getting him when he publicly wanted to come here.
Not making that move still haunts us to this day. I still remember those days when we were praying Jerry would hire him.

I just don't buy this idea that replacing Campo with Thurman is going to make much of a difference if anything at all. Dave Campo is one of the best secondary coaches n the league.

This.

If Wade is not back in 2011, he needs to be brought in at least as DC.

JJ won't do it though.

Combined stats from safeties who played in at least 50% of defensive snaps.

Dallas - 8.7 YPA
NYJ - 5.4 YPA

Green Bay - 6.6 YPA

Dallas - 4 TDs allowed in 51 targets, 7.8%
NYJ - 0 TDs allowed in 66 targets, 0%
Baltimore - 5 TDs allowed in 62 targets, 8.1%
Green Bay - 6 TDs allowed in 64 targets, 9.4%

Dallas - Longest play, 31 yards (Hamlin)
NYJ - Longest play, 38 yards (Rhodes)
Baltimore - Longest play, 35 yards (Landry)
Green Bay - Longest play, 42 yards (Collins)

Dallas - 1 INT in 51 targets, 2%
NYJ - 4 INT in 66 targets, 6.1%
Baltimore - 7 INT in 62 targets, 11.3%
Green Bay - 10 INT in 64 targets, 15.6%

The Ravens have a crazy son of a ***** named Ray Lewis and Jets have a crazy son of a ***** named Rex Ryan.

I'd say a lack of a loose screw is the right answer.

He played for Dennis Thurman in Baltimore though, and did for most of his career, save last season.

I know this. Look at the thread title it asked about the Ravens AND the Jets.

Didn't the Dallas defense give up fewer points than the Baltimore defense this year?

The offenses that the Ravens faced averaged a ranking of 16.8 in points scored with a median ranking of 19.5.

The offenses that the Cowboys faced averaged a ranking of 15.6 in points scored with a median ranking of 16.5.

Baltimore played 5 games against teams ranked in the top 10 in points scored.

Dallas played 5 games against teams ranked in the top 10 in points scored.

Baltimore played 5 games against teams ranked in the bottom 10 in points scored. They also ranked #11 from the bottom Cincy twice.

Dallas played 6 games against teams ranked in the bottom 10 in points scored.

Dallas gave up fewer points while facing better offenses than the Ravens. That is what seems to be missing between the those two teams.

Playmakers in their secondary.

We currently have 1 and a half.

"Bloody their nose" doesn't do it for you?

Do you know why Jerry didn' bring him in?

Does he have issues with players from the Landry era?

He brought in Jim Jeffcoat as a position coach.

Jim Jeffcoat started under Landry but won Super Bowls with Jimmy/Jerry.

I don't necessarily think Jones has an anti-Landry player attitude, I just think he really values familiarity and people he knows or is close in age to his generation.

I'm not saying this is good or bad, just what it appears to be to me
