What do you think the starting OL will look like next year?

Remember, we do not have Cooper under contract beyond the playoffs. This is just a look-see. I would not count on him being on the roster.
Cooper played in like a run and shoot offense iirc they probably think he can play backup g/c. I can see him sticking In That role he does have experience getting to the second level he's just not overly physical.

I'm curious if Free is actually damaged right now, and it is affecting his play?
He has never been very good. Now he is getting older. If he has even a minor injury that could push him over the edge of being unusable and having to be replaced even if Cleary is the only option.

I know. But they brought him here for a reason. I thought it might've been because Collins wouldn't be back for the playoffs, but it looks like they took him off IR. I don't think Cooper is for this year. If somehow 2 interior OLmen went down, I think they'd go with Looney over Cooper because he knows the system. I think they brought in Cooper to get an extended look and have dibs on signing him in the offseason. If he's legit, I could see them letting Leary go. Maybe they're content on moving Collins to RT and want to see if they should spend the money on Leary at LG.
Leary does have some type of injury issue and Collins may or may not be ready.

It would be cool if they are thinking about Collins at RT but I'm not sure that is why they signed Cooper. It is interesting.

I really don't care about next year. The playoffs are about to start and we are in them. Next year can wait.

Collins is in at LG. RT is Green, Free, FA, or Rookie.

Sorry I can't be more specific. Some of these draft gambles like Gregory and Green just aren't panning out.

I'm no fan of shaking things up, but I could see a scenario in which the Cowboys re-sign Leary to stay at LG, then perhaps moving La'el Collins to RT.

Or, and this is a crazy thought, could the Cowboys go with Leary and Collins as the guards and kick Zack Martin out to right tackle? I think he'd still be a beast outside; though he's the best guard in football right now.

The perfect plan is to have a first round pick fall into your lap because he was a murder suspect 24 hours before the draft then sign him for peanuts then have him replace the older vet just as the vet is earning a fat payday. But something about the Leary/lael situation gives me pause. Do they really want to break this thing up before they have to? We know Martin and mo and Byron and some others have contracts that need addressing and we can always use a proven vet defender in FA but I'm feeling like they will try to retain Leary and let Chaz green and lael compete for the RT spot. With green winning it.

So

Tyron
Leary(4yr/$40M)
Frederick
Martin
Chaz green

I think it is more likely Collins plays tackle, and Cooper is the starter at LG. I think Leary is fed up with us and won't resign

I'm thinking that Free will be kept on for next season, and start out the season. The team might just acquire a replacement 'rook' that can be worked into that position by mid season.

Leary will get paid after this year and Dallas won't commit long term on a player that has the degenerate knee concerns that Leary has. It does suck bc Leary is a great guard, but Dallas will focus on locking up thier All-pro RG in Martin before Leary, that's a fact. So maybe Cooper resigns a 2-3 year prove it deal like Leary did in order to be apart of the Great Wall II. So I see this next year..

Smith, Collins/Cooper, Fredrick, Martin, Free/Green.

-The three All-pros are set.
-Cooper will push Collins at LG, may the best man win. The loser will be the swing guard
-Green will be given a chance to beat out Free. Don't give up on Green, dude was a solid fill in for Tyron earlier in the season. And will be a great swing tackle if need be.

I love Leary's play, but Dallas's OL won't miss a beat next year protecting Dak and grading holes for Elliott. I suspect, that's exactly what the FO hopes.

The draft belongs to Marinelli, WR, and a return specialist to challenge Lucky Whitehead, if he's lucky;)

Pretty sure all of daks fumbles are from rushers beating free, now daks gotta be able to see or feel the rush better but frees play hasn't helped

Play the best five; Smith, Leary, Fredrick, Martin, Collins. It is not impossible for the Cowboys to resign Leary.

Oh yeah, maybe not. What is impossible tho.. is signing Martin and Leary. The All-Pro guard is the priority.
Hate to tell ya, If our back up RT (Jeremy Parnell) can jump ship and get paid a stupid amount money, than surely another team is going to pay our starting LG. Besides, This is Leary's only chance at a big pay day. I wouldn't blame him for taking the money, like I don't blame Parnell, and just like I don't blame the Cowboys for wanting to lock down The best guard in football, Zach Martin.

With the trio of Smith/Fred/Martin you really don't need GREAT OLinmen to fill it in. You can get by with good but not great players. It's what we have right now although at times Free is not even considered good.

It would be a mistake for this team to put another high dollar contract on that line.
