Jerry Jones hires the assistant coaches. He drafts all the players, manages the salary cap, decides who stays and who goes.

Jerry makes all the free agent and contract decisions but it's the HC that gets fired if things go south?

That's not right.

Jerry the GM deserved to be fired before Wade Phillips, Jason Garrett and Mike McCarthy.

Cowboy HCs are denied the authority normally assigned to other HCs around the league but they get all the blame

Things haven’t gone as I’d hoped in the winning seasons/playoffs. But McCarthy may have shown more of what I’m looking for in HC during this down year.

Stoicism reminiscent of my beloved coach Landry scored enough points with me that I think they should extend him for three years and see if he and Zim can move this thing back into contention - true contention.

The Cowboys won a bunch of games for three years under MM - but I never felt like they had a REALLY good team. Just a rung below the true contenders. I’m willing to take a few more rolls with McCarthy.
Good God......Have you seen the horrible in game decisions????? The fake punts....The lack of creativity on offense? The lack of discipline...the penalties????? This is all on McCarthy.....He has to go. He is IMHO the worst coach in Cowboys history......and it's not even close. The guy is an idiot.

Not since Parcels anyway.

I bet Andy Reid has a ton of say on draft day in KC. We know Belechek did in NE. Nobody wears the yellow and black unless Tomlin gives a thumbs up. When you have a great HC, the front office has to listen. We don't have that problem.
I seem to recall Parcells having NO CHOICE when ‘The Player’ was forced upon him. … Anyone?

What about Jerry does nothing claiming there is no urgency and Mike gets another offer and takes it?

Jerry Jones the GM should have been fired before Bill Parcells. He had ample opportunity to prove his team could be coached by 500 coaches after Jimmy Johnson's team evaporated. That stretch, which ended in three straight 5-11 Dave Campo seasons, should have been his pink slip.

After looking at quotes by Big Mac and Zimmer this week, I’m starting to think he’s headed out. I sure would if I was in his shoes. At this point if Jerry wanted McCarthy he should have already offered. The fact he chose to wait would not sit well with all those coaches IMO.
Exactly as he did with Dak and Lamb, and it hurt the 2024 roster.
If he doesn’t have an offer for Mike early next week, I think he will be searching for a new coach.

Sure he had a choice. He relented and then resigned following the season. Jerry had to get involved after Parcels began turning the franchise around so he wouldn't miss out on any credit.

I think more I look at it, the more I'm convinced that the Jones family internally moved on from MM and the staff after the last GB playoff loss. It was the manner by which we lost. We looked totally unprepared on all fronts. You don't leave your HC and the entire staff dangling on the last year of a deal if you were gonna bring them back. It's just common sense when you take a step back and look at the facts. MIke was never coming back. I think it was mutual too.

I feel your right. I think all involved knew even before this season. It's really the only thing that makes sense.

I think that was the 2nd time he should have been fired. The first time should have been in 1997 when it only took two seasons to destroy one to the most powerful rosters in NFL history. Switzer got the axe but the GM would have been fired as well had it been another GM in the league.

The third time should have been the 2010 season when Jerry decided to be the Head Coach, and they started out 1-7. The OC was instructed to report directly to Jerry and Wade assumed the duties if a DC.

When the OC and the DC report to the same person, what title does that person typically hold?

The 4th time should have been after the 2015 season. Jerry botched free agency and seriously degraded the offense.

In 2014 he had the #1 ranked quarterback in QB ratings and the leading rusher, who also broke the Cowboys single season rushing record. In addition, they had the best and youngest group of O-linemen. seven of the starting offfense were Pro Bowlers and four were 1st team All Pro. There was no way that team should have ended up 4-12 in 2015.

I count this season as the 5th time Jerry Jones should have been fired as the GM.

I think he returns, the players support and are behind him and that would be a large part of the decision if I were in his shoes

I think Mike McCarthy will continue to coach as he has coached here the last years he will beat the bad teams struggle against the good teams and fail miserably embarrassingly to the very good teams.
Be it here or somewhere else.
As far as we the Dallas Cowboys are concerned it doesn't matter who coaches us they are always handcuffed by Jerry and will never succeed they will stay relevant make the playoffs be on television and that's where it will end.

So what will happen to Mike McCarthy is the same thing that will happen to every coach since Jerry took over the team other than Switzer who won with Jimmy's roster.

They will fail to be able to compete when all the teams are good because Jerry won't really go all in and give them all the pieces of the puzzle to work with we will always be three players short of a Super bowl

That is all very true, but the problem is the GM is also the owner of the team, so he aint going anywhere and neither is his idiot offspring that thinks he is the best cap guy in the league, LOL!

Naturally, chit runs downhill so when things go south, as they always do, its the HC and his assistants that have to fall on the sword.

No, its not right, but its part of the deal when you sign up for the job.................Big Mike should not be surprised he is the next sacrificial lamb in the barn, he knew this day would come.

I was 80/20 Fat Mike would be back after that mini winning streak, but getting dog-walked twice by the Eagles and not even looking competitive seems to have changed the math somewhat.

I am now at 50/50 MM returns, I voted he would return in the poll, but its a coin toss right now if I am being honest.

I think Fat Mike is the fallback option for Jerry, he is going to make some calls and see how much interest is out there among the top candidates. If everybody tells Jerry to F-off, then I think MM returns as the default pick.

If I was Fat Mike, I would be a little pissed about being the "default pick" and I only get a new contract if everybody else says no. I would tell Jerry the second the season is over, you either give me a new contract right now or I am walking, I aint nobody's default pick.

But who are we kidding, Fatty doesnt have the balls to roll up on Jerry like that.
