Of course, SF was dumber'n dirt, but at least he was still a prospect and they didn't know how he'd pan out.

We knew and still gave up a draft pick for him. So, I'd have to say that we were more stupid.
The whole thing is broken

Dallas has plenty of regular season tape on Cooper Rush as Daks back up . But with a starting OL some regular season WR’s and Dowdle at RB why not get regular season tape on Lance and start him Sunday .

What does Dallas lose by starting Lance and letting him have the entire 4 quarters . I remember a couple of seasons ago they gave Will Grier the entire last preseason game to showcase his talents knowing they were cutting him .

Remember a Dallas loss and a win by the 49ers in Arizona and the 49ers draft after Dallas not before .
Maybe they repeat it and start Will Grier this week too to cap it off.

What do they gain is also a fair question.

"What does Dallas Lose by Starting Lance"

I think the equally interesting question would be ....What do they stand to gain?

Lance has his 5th year option due next year, as a #3 pick, I'm sure it quite high.
Dallas will have to cut him to not pay it. No one is trading for him and the option.
Start him, sit him makes no difference. Only the NFL rhetoric will be what a buffoon Jerry was ..... he sits.

Rush losed a chance at a $500,000 bonus if he sits. He needs 55% of the snaps for the season. He is at 52%

Presumably Jerry gets a hit to his ego when the player he wasted a 4th on, and is currently the 4th highest paid backup in the NFL, is shown to be completely awful.

They already declined the option on it.

Lance is UFA after the season.

They would love to sign him for 4YR/20M

IF Dallas post June cuts Dak in March 2026, they still have two seasons of dead money.

My bad. Not necessarily SF but league wide there's a lot of aggressive GMs who manipulate the board to get their guy. Our FO lets the draft come to them and winds up with the Tyler Guytons, Taco Charltons or even Byron Jones' of the world. Being aggressive is something the Jones don't have the stomach for.
Replace the word "stomach" w/ "brains".

Maybe Cowboys know they will let him walk. My understanding on Rush is that he is very smart with Football IQ. Gotta keep that dude in the QB room. Does he look like a future coach. Probably as much or more than Kellen moore.
