What drafting Switzer says about our TEs

Anybody else thinking that the two-TE experiment is over?

I mean, if we're rolling with Swaim and Rico behind Witten, we must be expecting to just sprinkle them in to spell Witten here and there until one of them (and it sounds like the team hopes it's Rico) shows they're ready to take over.

For the record, I'm okay with that.

There's nothing wrong with having Dez and Witten out there with either Williams or Butler, and Beasley or Switzer, with Zeke in the backfield and DMac adding 5-10 carries per game. In fact, that's a very exciting offense that I can't wait to see!

To me it means they probably some have faith in Rico.
Interesting Shaheen (close to Rico in specs) was taken in the middle of the 2nd.
This would be especially true if Hanna's knee is as bad as the microfracture rumor.

Honestly, I think this says more about the intelligence of our receivers - or the lack thereof - more than anything.

I know posters may not like this but ... I think part of Romo's turnover problems had to do with receivers not running their routes correctly and, in some cases, not catching balls. But Romo played the reliable solider and never threw anyone under the bus.

Dak comes in, doesn't force the football and tells Dez if you're open, you'll get the ball. You can read between the lines. And notice who has a big year: Cole Beasley. I'm sure the Cowboys took note of this and also how the Patriots thrive without an Adonis at wide receiver. They just take short, fleet receivers who know how to work underneath the coverage, who can catch and who will be where they're supposed to be.

Enter Ryan Switzer, another receiver along with Beasley and Witten who know where to be on the field and another receiver Dak can trust.

No, it's not really related to the TEs. They want to limit the snaps played by the starting WRs. They don't want them worn down in the 4th quarter.

Remember the snaps that Lucky has played in the offense? Those will go to Switzer. Also, the snaps that Dunbar played at WR will likely go to Switzer.

Also, punt returns were a big part of the decision to draft Switzer.

They still have James Hanna. There have not been any reports about the status of his knee that I've seen.

The Jones say Rico will play significant snaps.

The other issue is that they needed a backup for Beasley. I think last year, Dunbar would have replaced Beasley if he was injured. I don't think they've ever completely trusted Lucky.

I think it was telling how the Jones talked about Lucky when it was brought up.
Sounds like they want Switzer to replace Lucky pretty badly.

Wut

It just says how much they value the Beasley role in the offense, and a serious attempt to improve the return game.

I don't think Switzer is going to get on the field much. There's not enough balls to go around, we saw that with Harris when he was here and currently with Whitehead. What we need is a better return game and Switzer is the upgrade.

i don't expect switzer to start. i expect him to handle returns and to give beasley a breather or to occasionally have 2 slot guys on the field at once.

What did they say about Lucky?

i believe it was the 3rd day press conference.
they were talking about roles for the receivers but did not mention lucky.
when the press asked about lucky, jerry recovered enough to say some ok things.

if the team looked for areas of improvement, returner was clearly a good opportunity.
switzer looks like a good gamble with the 4th round pick.
#1 question - can his body handle the nfl.

Disagree. Guy is a natural chain mover. Cant have enough of that. Think he plays the Dunbar role but lines up wide. Think he will give the average NFL DB a lot of trouble in coverage.

I think it's a change in offensive philosophy. With Dak's athleticism and Zeke's multi-use, we can run a faster, quicker-hitting offense that uses the slots more.

I take it that this draft was enjoyed by yourself, Sir...:starspin:

This could be more about Dak and how he processes. He likes the quick strike and having another speedy twitchy guy will allow him to spread the defense even further.
Exactly! Hopefully no more long developing, 15 yard routes with Romo taking 5 step drops and waiting on someone to maybe get open.
