Why does everyone want to spend every dollar we have? We have the most complete team I can remember prior to the draft. We also have five young studs who will be free agents next year (Dez, Leary, Crawford, McClain, Hardy). I'd rather save some money to resign those guys.

I see holes at RB, DT, and CB.

Leary was really good against Watt. He struggled in 1 game against Cox. Tyron struggled in some games, so it happens to all OLinemen.

Leary is a better NFL player than Free.

No. I don't agree with this. Free is better then Leary. No question in my mind about that.

Leary is about as cheap as they come. Not interested in increasing the line cost 7x at one spot.

Leary is solid.

You could use this argument about the RB position as well. Randle is way cheaper then an AP and he's solid on the field. Not saying you are for signing AP but the argument is the same. Now, if you are for signing AP, then that's a different story.

I'm not just giving an off the cuff opinion. I've spent a huge number of hours studying the Cowboys OL. Their scheme cheats towards the right which makez Leary's job more difficult than it otherwise would be. Having Fred and Martin cheat right makes it easier for the RT. They started this scheme change in 2013 and it was a big part of Free's improved play. Veterans don't generally improve as much as Free did from 2012 to 2013. A big part of that improvement was scheme related.

Except I've seen Leary man the spot for 16 games and more than hold his own.

I have not seen Randle do the same.

So no the arguments are very different.

As an aside I wouldn't pay Adrian what he is making now for 3 years and I wouldn't give up much to get him. I absolutely would bring him in on the type of deal Murray got. The reasons why should be self evident.

I'm not saying you are but then again, your not the only person on this board who studies the Cowboys. He does not have very good lateral agility and his strength is not nearly as good when he does have to reach. As a LG, you would like this to be much better. On top of this, it's a when and not if thing on the knee. It's degenerative and because of this (probably why he's not as good at reach blocks), it's only going to get worse. The fewer games he has to play, the longer his career will likely last. The more he plays, the fewer years he will likely have in the league.

Fair enough. I just think he's proven himself enough that we shouldn't be looking to immediately replace him. He's a guy who was considered one of the better guards in his draft class but went undrafted due to a serious knee condition. We were ecstatic when we saw he was still available and signed him immediately. He battled with Bearndeau his rookie year and learned the ropes, then won the starting job his second year and played every game for the best O-line in the league, in which span he dominated some of the best D-linemen in the league. They can't all be 1st round picks and future Hall of Famers.

Did we just not sign Ronald Leary to a multi year, team friendly deal?

I don't know how much more has to be said on what the FO plans are with Leary than that.

Leary is a free agent after the 2015 season.

It was a one year deal for $585,000. They gave backup OT Weems the same exact contract. They also gave more money to #7 LB Watson and the new FB we brought in. Talk about no love.

Well, then that substantiates looking at guard if we're not set on Leary.

I think the guys a very good player minus the overall knee scare.

See if we can draft another guard around the 3rd that could be starter ready a season after being drafted.

FA isn't where we need to go for a guard and especially one that is over 30.

Wow! That's what that tells me.

For Leary to just sign that deal he must have felt the rest of the league feels the same way too.

Yeah we have some impact players coming in on every level of our D other than the secondary.

In order to have a great D, we will have to find that great player in the secondary. While an improved pass rush will help them, you need balance to improve the total D by also getting better coverage.....and yeah an improvement at safety has been needed for a decade.

We can hope and pray Mo finally gets it, but what we really need is an impact player on the last level of our D.

He was an ERFA, emphasis on E. He will be an RFA next offseason.

Scandrick is a great player. I think more of a problem in our secondary is not having a ball hawk FS than not having another great CB. I think Scandrick and crew will be fine if we continue to improve our pass rush. But FS is still an issue.

Right now all about bringing guys in and letting them compete. We are thin at safety and if getting a guy like Brown at FS can come in and compete you have a chance to get a starting player or depth at the worst.

Leary's knee condition might not get any worse until he's 40....not a guarantee it will affect him as a player.

I suppose anything is possible but I don't really think that this will be the case. For guys who have no issues with their knees, and have finished up their careers, they experience issues with their knees, well before 40. It could be like you say but I don't think that this will be the case for Leary. It's degenerative so it will progress.
