Hear! Hear! This is one of the most informative posts I've seen in here.
As I stated earlier, he is doing the radio show with me tonight. This guy is as good at breaking this stuff down as you can hope for. He's candid and insightful.

I really enjoyed looking through this thread, was just passing through and got lucky? For future reference, what radio show are you on, and is it available online?

Watch for a thread posted by dcfanatic later tonight. We normally do it every Wednesday night, but since tomorrow is Christmas Eve, we changed a night.

Spear stinks and I agree. But even if he holds his ground he isn't going to make the tackle while he's angaged. The tackle is up to the MLB's and the Safeties once McGahee gets past the LOS.

And on the second run. You want McClain going outside because he's a downhill runner. He isn't a cutback or a shifty runner at all. You think he's going anywhere near 82 yards if Spencer does his job abd pushes the lead and RB outside?

You are way off. Not the coach.

Go back to telling us how great T.O. is and stay away from the actual football stuff.

Apparently my explanation sailed completely over your head (what a surprise).

No, Spears isn't going to make the tackle while he's engaged, but the linebacker (s) he protects WILL. If he had actually held the double team, neither James nor Thomas would have been blocked. If he had just held ONE blocker, one of the two would've been free to make the tackle.

It's a really simple concept and mind-boggling that you fail to grasp it.

As for McClain: He's going 82 yards if the safeties don't make the tackle. The point I was making is that Bradie James isn't going to make that tackle, regardless of where Spencer forces the play--Neal was lined up to block him, regardless of what gap the play was run through.

...I give my d-line in pee wee football.

1. Play your assignment. That's how you make a play. No freelancing.
2. Fight the pressure! There's a purpose to the blocking pressure. Fight it and the majority of the time if you can' stalemate or win against it you will put yourself in a position to make the play.
3. Don't look to the players behind you to make the play. The best way to blow up a running play is at the line of scrimmage. Once the runner has a head of steam he places tacklers in space at a disadvantage.

I don't coach to the level that Coach Bartel does, but everything I teach the young kids I have on the defence is about gap responsibility.
