Do we know why we lost 5 seconds, was it on the refs, on the coach or what??

NFLN said the clock operator assumed a TO. But none was called. But they stopped the clock anyway.
A video showed MM telling the ref to ... wind the clock ...

MM took the sure points because he knew it was turning into a defensive game. As what was going to really happen as LAC was not going to get the chance to score, and they were getting the ball to start the 2nd half.

It was the right thing to do, especially passing on the FG earlier.

With 8 seconds theres just too much that can go wrong for very little chance of scoring a td. It has to be a one drop throw with the defense sitting back. You also have penalties and sacks that play a factor. Take the three

Seemed to me like he didn't trust his QB. Can't say that I blame him that much, but it's a pretty sobering commentary on where this all stands. Not much different than the coach calling kneel downs with 30+ seconds left and the team at their own 35 before the half.

You don't see it quickly throw it to the fans

Nah. This wasnt an end of game scenario where you can freelance because its the last play. This is literally a one read and then you let it fly out the back of the endzone. About a 5% chance of scoring.. is that worth a turnover, flag, or sack? Its more than "trusting the QB".

McCarthy decided to just run the clock down and take the 3.

I wasn’t a fan of that decision. But it ultimately worked.

Going off responses it appears most don't realize we had 2 timeouts left during this entire sequence of events.

Scared to put game in Daks hands. Not a good thing.
yep, this is exactly right. Thanks for blessing us with this matter of fact statement. This is definitely the only thing MM was thinking about when making the decision...

Truth hurts. Look at our redzone offence. Vanilla because coach has zero confidence in Dak.

It was the right thing to let the clock run, but I’m not surprised at the fan reaction. We would have been at about the 15 with eight seconds left. Much more bad than good could have happened.

I even said with eight seconds, just kick it.

I think it was a bad decision. Take one shot into the end zone then kick the FG if the play doesn't work. They had time and TOs. But none of that had to transpire had they called time out after the 11 yard catch by Gallup with about 47 seconds left. Gallup catch a pass and was knocked out of bounds so the refs did not stop the clock. The Cowboys snapped the ball for the next play at 28 seconds. So they let about 19 seconds run off the clock. They were at the Chargers 37 yard line. They had 2 time outs. They should have called time out there. Those 19 seconds could have been very useful for the rest of that drive.
