What Happened to Cowboys Fans?

I love this board! Some of the responses are pure gold.

BTW Who else is coming up on 15 years being a member of the board? Man we’ve seen some characters come and go... But this board is the gift that keeps on giving... Never change CZ

I was talking to a young Cowboys fan last night at the bar. I mentioned being a fan through the rough times makes it all pay off when we win it all like when we went 1-15. He nearly passed out and questioned if I was telling him the truth. I thought he was going to die when I told him Troy, Emmitt and Irvin were on the team and Jimmy was the coach.

Well, you were wrong. Emmitt was not on the 89’ team

In fairness Millennials have not experienced Dallas winning past 1st round of playoffs yet. So their perspective will be completely different than those who watched multiple SB winning Cowboy teams.

Not really, millennials are born from 81-96. I was born in 84, was 8 when we Dallas won in 1992 and remember it vividly

On the contrary, I'm fully aware of the comments here.

The key word is a "lot", there's always going to be some of each extreme, but the majority fall somewhere in the middle...
I’m on the fence on this one, because I agree that the extreme is the norm. This fan base went from JG is the worst coach ever and we should tank after the first five games of the season to who is better than us and we should win the SB after week 13.

I wouldn't put them in the suck category, but I do think fans and local media overrate the team and talent. And most fans are unrealistic in expectations - they're either overly optimistic or overly pessimistic.
May have been a tad drastic there, they don’t suck but they are overrated.

Ok when I was thinking Millennials I was thinking about 25 years old...and they would have missed SB completely.

That's fine. If you want to deny you said Jones "Makes all of the calls." - feel free. Even though that is exactly what you posted.

I would have agreed had you stated he has the "Final call." In which he should. Buy a franchise and good luck.

Next, McClay. Your take is ridiculous.
"McClay? He's in his job because Jerry wanted someone to filter the information coming from the coaches and scouts so Jerry could make a decision with regards to player personnel."

You lost me man, I generally enjoy your opinion and take on a lot of topics. Hell, you've offered a few perspectives that made me think different. But your take on McClay is just not accurate.

Agree to disagree.

That's a bit of semantics trying to discern between "makes all the calls" and "makes the final call". Jerry has final say in almost all football decisions. We are seeing that again where he's basically making the decision on the OC. That's not a typical set up, where the owner hires the assistants with only input from the HC. Most HCs get to pick their own staff.

Further, my comment on McClay is pretty accurate. McClay was elevated to his current role after the 2013 issues in the war room where the draft board had Floyd 5th on the board but the defensive coaches wanted no part of him. It created some confusion and discord in the war room on draft day. So McClay was elevated to essentially be the point person, where he'd look at guys and then take feedback from the coaches and scouts and build the draft board for Jerry. He was put in his role to basically filter the information coming from scouts and coaches and give Jerry one message. It was reported at the time he was promoted.

That's what you said and there's a difference, but whatever.

No Emmitt on the 1-15 team, by the way.

There really isn't but I understand your need to harp on it. There is little difference between saying he makes all the calls or makes the final call in the context of our discussion.

In the end, Jerry makes the call......... who to draft, who to sign, who to hire, etc. Now if your point is that he doesn't make the call as to what the cafeteria serves the players on a particular day or who will devise the visit schedule for the combine, then I guess, you are right......... you got me. He doesn't make ALL the calls. He just makes the most important and most critical to the football team.

Lol, whatever dude. You win, I don't care that much as you.

We use to be one of the most intelligent fan bases in the NFL. Now we hang off of every word of the media's click bait that is purposely targeting our uniformed response.

How many years now without a superbowl 100? 50? 30? Oh yeah 24 right...somewhere around there oh who cares...there is your answer.
