What happened to the CBs playing man?

I would much rather let Kap beat us with his legs than watch us sit in the zone and let him pick it apart. I just don't understand allowing guys to pick a part our zone. I thought when Kiffin was gone that nonsense would end.

The team should play whatever scheme their players can execute, regardless of their opponent.

Basically compromising your ability to defend the pass in order to prevent possible scrambling plays by the other QB?

Yeah, that makes a ton of sense.

And yet, if Tony hadn't mishandled the ball, we likely would have won that game against a good team.

Kap is a running threat but I believe the primary reason we play zone is because we don't have a safety we can trust to cover the top. if we stick with that scheme the next few you games we will likely have the answer.

Did anyone hear Grudin last night talking about the Tampa 2? Basically said it does not work anymore. The Cowboys were running cover 3 Sunday but the comment was interesting.

Doesn't help them with having the worst cover safeties in the league back there and I know the Church crowd will come out with vitriol at me now but the truth hurts..... He is an in the box old fashioned SS, in fact we have two of em playing back there in an era when the pass is predominant.
Oh for them to have played in 1975

Did you happen to check out the real game stats that the group you are dissing, actually came out of a game with a good football team with?

That is as real as one's own disappointments.

It was a little disappointing to see CBs lined up 9 yards off when it was 8 yards for a 1st down.

That is supposed to allow opportunistic corners to make plays on the ball and jump routes. Our corners are too stupid to see a route develop in front of them and make a play.

They ran Cover 3 most of last year.

I am not isolating one game, more looking at previous seasons and seeing a pattern. If you don't see it it's because you don't want to

When you introduce something like this, sometimes take the initiative to go ahead and explain some of the points in the view.

You state an opinion and don't back it up other than an unsupported opinion. I appreciate your response, but you instead of clarification, one started to chunk stereotypes around. From the start, you don't have any indicator of my thoughts on subject.

Oh, and don't use the impersonal, you, as a basis of what is your own observations...that is rude. Facts on subject are built upon first person and third person references...not blaming another.

I <thought> I saw a lot of zone with the corners playoff off quite a bit. Please correct me if I am wrong.

My impression was that this season they were going to play predominantly man to best maximize Carr and Claiborne's skill-sets.

My initial thought is they decided to go zone (mainly) because Kapernick is such a threat to run with it.

Because Kap ability to take off and make big plays. In man CB will have their back to the QB and in that case kap will take off and given his running ability they were not willing to do it. Having said that when we fell behind by more than 2 scores I was hoping we would go into man coverage but pretty much stayed in zones.

Kap is not an ordinary QB when it comes to running the ball. He will take big chunks of yardage. They are not concerned with scrambling they are concerned with the 25, 30 yard gains that he is very capable of pulling off.

Once again, attribute to poor coaching. I get game planning against other teams and making adjustments. But damn, when you are a horrid zone team and your strength is man to man, then why not go with your strength and make the other team beat you. It seems this coaching staff would rather do the opposite. Also while on my coaching rant, Garrett needs to grow some balls and tell Tony, if you check out of this run play, I will sit your *** down for the rest of the game. Tony Romo is not and will not be a good offensive coordinator.

can you name one team in the nfl who plays man against the 49ers? when you have a running qb the last thing you want is every defender playing with their backs to the los.

The 2 factor in playing zone were the running QB and not having Scandrick.

They just need to play tighter zone on 3rd downs. They made the underneath receptions to easy.

They weren't comfortable manning up with Kap able to run it on them when they did.

So use Carter as a spy and blitz the outside......they should just play man because giving the easy 5-10 yard gimmies all game has gotta leave the game plan

They didn't have to play zone because they were getting pressure from the d-line, and having a lb like McClain allows you to let him focus on the QB.

It appears that Kap keys on CBs playing man. I think they have that offense set up such that when he is making his reads, that if he sees a CB in man coverage, he automatically runs outside to that side of the field.

You are too knowledgeable of a poster to ask this question. Playing man against a running QB is a recipe for disaster. I think you knew that and just wanted to take a potshot at Carr.

Yeah because the shot at Carr was unwarranted. He has definitely lived up to his contract his time here.
