Happy New Year Zoners. This season is ending on a high but low note for me. Week 17 will have some excitement but winning 3 in a row really takes Dallas out of contention to draft a top QB. Worst case scenario seems likely - Dallas and Washington both win. So the draft pick ends up in the 9-12 area, I guess. Definitely no QB there. No Surtain. No Parsons. Oh well. Biggest question is the QB. Seems like the choices are:

1. Tag Dak for 2021 and let him play out that contract

2. Trade Dak knowing the value is down given the injury and ATL likely grabs Wilson

3. Sign Dak LT - there will be no bargain there

If you go with #2 is Dalton your guy?

so No QB ever taken after pick 10 round one has evert been good LMAO..seriously Rogers late first , brady 6th round ,dak 4th round i can go on forever..wasnt RW a 2nd rounder? come on man its not about where you pick its about who you pick..heck sometimes an UDFA like Warner and Romo get passed on,..

Now back to reality's

Dalton will not be our starter unless dak plays hardball, he has to compromise and come with more team friendly deal.. I think we FT him but his response to it will be key, will he hold out, will the FO cave? we need Dalton for insurance as backup.. Dalton is not better then Dak ,

however,

Dak is not worth over 35mil and if he ants even more like 38-40 give the new market, and wont help the Fo with better contract structure this time..he maybe traded , not because we dont want him but paying Dak over 35mil is hard to stomach..

I want Dak back but not if hes unwillingly to come more to the middle like the FO tried to get him to do the last 2 Offseason..

Dalton not the future but he could be a nice bridge.

nothings really changed, this is up to dak now..how will he react to all that happened, does he soften his stance some or forces a huge deal or trade? he will hold out IMHO

Im putting the non exclusive tag on him and lets see the true interest and market for dak. Post injurys, cap year that will be down, and the state of things with the c word..

None of the trophies in the background have his stats on them.....but the smile was great....and not a peep from the board when it happened.

Actually many said the contract was an overpay given Romo's lack of playoff success just like many on here say Dak should not receive a big contract extension given his lack of playoff success.

"...not a peep from the board when it happened"

In what universe did some CowboysZone members NOT post threads and comments criticizing Romo's signing--over an EXTENDED time?

I am going on two decades on this site, much of it as a moderator, and this example is one the best fiction I have read here. Ever.

It is not a New Years resolution but one of my hopes for 2021 is for both Jerry Jones and Dak Prescott to make it crystal clear to each other whether they want a long-term contract between them. Or not. This limbo question is (debatably) the worst thing hanging over cowboyszone right now.

The Romo debate was legendary

Dak will get tagged.. it's just business.

Cowboys Nation underestimate the desire by Jerry and Stephen NOT to be hamstrung by the Cap. Romo's deal after the injury hurt the team.

Moderator.....how about.....not as much hate, disdain, heartache, or continued lobbying against our QB's salary? Or ignoring the very same accomplishments that got TRomo big money? As for fiction....I'm reading far-fetched posts on the board everyday...and if mine seems so.....I should be good.....right?

this is not Dak issue, the Fans have turned on EVERY SINGLE PLAYER WHO HAVE RECENTLY GOT BIG DEALS..

IM ASSUMING THEY SEEMINGLY HAVE LEARNED FROM THE MISTAKES THEY FEEL THE FO HAS MADE IN THE PAST AND DONT WANT THEM TO MAKE THEM AGAIN..

IMO i dont believe fans should worry about the deals once they are signed, its out of our control, they are our own players that will be here for the long term and should support the player and leave salary out of it..

However before the deals are signed , fans want to feel lie their input to remind others that mistakes were made and hoped they arent repeated..

right or wrong thats the deal. this isnt a dak vs romo or a hate dak issue, seriously fans have taken issue with EVERY player that has got big deal in the last 5 years , they turned on them..

Don't know why you listed point #2 - pure speculation
-Can't trade Prescott, he is a FA once this season ends.
'Trade Dak knowing the value is down given the injury and ATL likely grabs Wilson'
- Wow....the man is still rehabbing, yet Whyjerry knows Prescott will not fully recover---but another team will want him anyway; Atlanta in the process of getting their next GM and Coach, plus the Falcons are not yet a lock at #3--and if there, getting a QB is a priority

History is simply repeating itself with Dak Prescott. Both he and Romo have been overzealously criticized. IF any member would take a step back and truly reflect on the relative commentary made about BOTH men, any would conclude that right now, FOUR years into Prescott's career, that the level of nonsense thrown at Prescott STILL has not superseded that sloshed at Romo. And that is still remarkable given the volumes of criticism extended to Prescott on an almost daily basis.

You keep doing you, my friend, regardless of everything published for daily review on this site for nearly two decades. I'm headed to work.

It is a tricky situation. I believe if Dalton would not have gotten hurt or sick we would have won the East by now. The same could be said for Dak if he did not get injured. That is the dilemma of signing Dak to large contract. Dalton cost us 3 to 7 million this season while Dak cost us 30+ this season. The Cowboys have an excuse to move on from Dak now. Unless they believe Dak would have led this team to a Super Bowl if he did not get injured. I don’t think he would.

On a side note I believe the Football Team would give Dak 40 million+ and trade their first round pick + for him. So there is a market for Dak.

Nice try Blueblood, not sure why this isn't a Dak issue (QB). Beauty of the board is our opinions,....fair vs unfair.....obvious vs baffling....subjective vs objective.....truth vs fiction.....vicious vs reasonable.....moment vs body of work, and so on, and my favorite.....ulterior motives. All good. Shaking the trees, that's all.

Not a problem.
