What happens to the QB position now?

1. His best stats weren't from his first year
2. Team record has nothing to do with an individuals best season. Dak was incrementally better in 2019 than he was in 2016, the team was worse around him. Reminder that using team record when discussing individual performance is incredibly misguided.
3. "Second best finish"? Are you talking team success again? And one that doesn't even paint it as his best year?

2 of your 3 points were based off team W/L, and the other wasn't correct? Woof

1. His highest passer rating was in his first year. His highest QBR rating was in his first year.
2. Team record is a big part of quarterback analysis. His 2019 passer rating and qbr were worse than 2016.
3. Yes. The ultimate goal is to win games. Wins and losses is not the only way to measure a quarterback's success. But it correlates well. And it's the one that matters most.
4. Both the Cowboys record and his statistics against good teams peaked in his first year and have been really bad since then. Which I neglected to mention in my first post. He cleans up against bad teams (which is fine) and doesn't play well and loses against good ones.
5. I just looked at Dak's stats for this post. Actually, they're not as good as I thought. Currently, there are 10 quarterbacks in the league with a passer rating over 100. Dak has done that one time in 5 years (in his first season). Are we really going to pay $40 million to a quarterback who can't crack 100?

stop drinking and it’ll help you remember

sobering up will also help you see Dak’s limitations
Unless coffee is a problem, I'm alright. I've been taken to the woodshed already by the Moderator. As for limitations.....we don't want to go there...."Big Game Romo".

not a try and shoot and score go count
the hate vs contract from

Elliott
Jsmith
LCollins
Tsmith
Crawford
AC

and yes Daks 32mil tag and contract fight

everyone of them have owned this board the last 3 seasons plus..in many of these board members opinions they are ALL overpaid and stealing money from our cap..go count up all the posts regarding these contracts and others remember Dez, brandon Carr? miles Austin long before them the Roy Williams both of them etc etc
First of all, anyone who think L Collins' contract is bad is stupid, because it's one of the best contracts in football.

Second of all, the bigger point is that sports fans think everyone is overpaid. There's rarely any legitimacy to that nonsense.

History is simply repeating itself with Dak Prescott. Both he and Romo have been overzealously criticized. IF any member would take a step back and truly reflect on the relative commentary made about BOTH men, any would conclude that right now, FOUR years into Prescott's career, that the level of nonsense thrown at Prescott STILL has not superseded that sloshed at Romo. And that is still remarkable given the volumes of criticism extended to Prescott on an almost daily basis.

You keep doing you, my friend, regardless of everything published for daily review on this site for nearly two decades. I'm headed to work.

Prescott is in the conversation for best Cowboys QB ever and we've had Roger Staubach, Troy Aikman, Danny White and Tony Romo.

Personally I'd transition tag Dak and see if a team offers him a contract then decide to match or take the picks. I'd also talk to Dalton and see what he's asking cause I'm not paying him more than 20/year if Dak moves on.

Even with an improved offensive line, I think we've seen what Dalton is at this point. A mediocre QB who can sometimes be elevated by our fantastic trio of wide receivers. I wouldn't pay him more than $12 million a season if he has to be our starter next year. I also think that unlike Dak, we probably can't build a good enough team around Dalton to win a Super Bowl.

The FO didnt think Dak was good enough to give a long term deal to a few months ago. The only thing that has changed since then is Dak is now recovering from a serious injury. Dont believe the speculation over the contract years amounts. They were close enough that a deal would have been done if the team wanted it. I suspect Garrett wanted Dak, but MM wasnt convinced. The injury means there no chance he gets signed long term.

Cowboys wont tag Dak. Already wasted 30m tagging him in 2020, wont waste even more in 2021 especially given the injury - would be like a gambler chasing a loss. No FO is going to throw 35m after already been burnt for 30m.

The idea of tagging to trade is not likely given the risk of no trading partners - he may not even pass a physical before training camp.

In reality it's too early to say what will happen. From next week onwards we'll see what coaching changes will take place across the league - some will want to change QBs. Then we'll have cuts in advance of free agency - which could unlock a batch of QBs due to salary cap going down. Could be some surprise QBs on the market.

There's no sense in Dallas panicking. Best thing to do is explore the various options and decide what combination of QB suits for 2021.

My gut feeling is we'll have a new veteran QB and a draft choice. MM will bring in QBs to suit his system.

not really

there is a difference between ‘far fetched’ and ‘willfully ignorant’
Visionary….BTW, I had no problem with TRomo signing the deal.....my question...…"Why was Jerry so willing for TRomo, but not so willing for Dak, now?" I have an idea, just curious of your take.

I have nothing to say because I have a strong guess as well but it's not a PC one so I will keep it to myself.

Team record is a big part of your* quarterback analysis.

For me personally, I analyze the quarterback himself instead of the team when analyzing quarterbacks. Groundbreaking stuff, I know.

I'm not a big Dak hater but if by "in the conversation" you mean "which Dallas QB is the next best after Roger, Troy, Danny and Tony?" then sure, we can talk about it. He absolutely has Quincy Carter and Drew Henson beat in that regard.

Whoa.....we're not going there, are we?....My take (just my opinion)…..JJ liked and believed in TRomo and maybe because he is strapped with the other deals (Zeke/Smiths/Coop). Maybe JJ was enamored with the numbers Romo was putting up (Dak now with KMoore), loved the scoreboard running hot, and begin to neglect the defense with good signings.
Maybe JJ loved the "Face of the Franchise". Nothing about PC....nothing. Where you going?

Huh?....why is the benchmark including Quincy Carter and Drew Henson? And Tony included with Roger, Troy and Danny? Tony ain't go no ring.

Don't get your hopes up on getting a 1st or 2nd for one of the worst contracts in the league.

Forget the contract, no one sane would give a 1 or a 2 up just for his production now.

The league is figuring out that RBs are short lived commodities. We wouldn't get a bag of chips back now for Zeke.

Sadly that true, but not this year.

Because Jerry always had that 2nd tag in his pocket. So he felt no pressure to sign Dak this past offseason. But like with Elliott not showing up, Jerry will feel the pressure this offseason because he knows he likely has to sign him before the 2021 season starts.

Neither does Danny, and Romo holds the team record for career passing yards. He deserves to mentioned with those names (although I certainly wouldn't rate him better than Troy or Rodger. Probably on par with Danny).
