What has this franchise learned that makes us closer to a SB?

I don't disagree, and don't forget I never said it's his #1 passion. The discussion is about him wanting a ring, and I did agree he has no clue how to do it.

Think of it this way. Jerry has admitted that he sucks at being GM. And yet he insists on being GM. Just how much does a man want to win who insists on employing a terrible GM?

When he is power hungry, close to dementia and in denial that is the root cause of the teams issue. Still can't convince me he doesn't "want" to win, it simply means "if" he wins it will be because of him, not somebody else. The ego is about as big as the cheque book in this case. I live in the Toronto area, and our hockey team choked again last night....last victory parade was in 1967. I am not a fan, but nobody in the city thinks ownership has not had the desire to win, it is simply they don't know how to. This, and they have employed a real GM, etc, but still sans clue. My MLB team are the Reds as you can figure out from my name....ask me how my sports life is? LOL.

Yep, spot on, and Jerry turning 80 is the reason we're closer to a SB.

Stephen wont last long on his own, media and fans wont give him the leeway they gave Daddy.

Still think on a serious front that ridding the roster of good(ish), but overpaid players in favor of resetting the CAP and building primarily on the draft and our younger talent.....problem is that we will need a GM that will spend when we're in a position of knowing and evaluating what we already have.

He thinks eliminating that middle person is somehow an advantage, which is extremely flawed logic.

I think you put it quite well there, in that he does not want to win bad enough to do what it takes to do so. Nobody can deny that he wants to be front and centre before anything else. Also, what in the hell does aggrandizement mean LOL. Is that even a word? ha!

Based on the 2022 draft, appears they have realized that you need guys that can punish the defensive line and do it with strength and a mean streak. If you look at the two O line guys and even a couple of the UDFA guys on the line, you see stronger and nastier guys. On defense, it appears they want as much speed as possible to wreck the passing game and hopefully Ridgeway can bring a nasty streak to the D Line much like Aaron Donald does with the Rams D Line. We have been to much finesse and not enough of a punishing team. To many gadget plays on offense and to much reliance on LB to stop the run instead of the D Line knocking the interior O Line back on their butts.

Have we done enough to reach a Super Bowl? First we need to reach the second round of the playoffs before we can even think about a Super Bowl. Done enough depends on a lot of things, will Smith, Williams, Tolbert, Ferguson improve the team, will those 5th round picks pan out into good backups/starters, will Elliott and Pollard have good seasons with an improved line, will Dak spread the ball around enough so the defense cannot focus on any one or two players, will the D Line finally stop the run, will Joseph play and be the player they believe they drafted, and will those year two guys step up. Those answers aren't coming until training camp and those first 6 games. If we can answer all those in a somewhat positive way then yes barring significant injuries, we can. Many good teams can handle significant injuries because of good quality backups, just not sure we have enough of those.

We all want to see the Cowboys move to a place where they can compete for a SB or at least a conference championship for the first time in over a quarter century.

So two serious questions:

1. What has this franchise (and its leadership) learned the last few years that makes us closer to a championship for the first time in 26 seasons?
   
2. Is there anything that gives you confidence that this team will make the playoffs in back to back seasons for the first time in 15 years?

I’m curious where fans are on this. I’m hoping to be convinced by a compelling argument. Otherwise it seems our hopes to break this cycle of 26 years rests squarely on the shoulders of Lady Luck.

If you are convinced otherwise, let me know why, lol.

I still don't like Jerry and Stephen talking out of the behinds like they know anything about football. I know people will chastise me for this, I think we are a much better team with McCarthy leading the way. People may not like Moore. But we had the number 1 offense last year. And if we can improve our defense this year, we might make it to the playoffs again.

What gives me hope is that we no longer need to worry about Garrett. Him and his staff just did not have the respect that McCarthy gets from the Jerry/Stephen.

They have renamed Rd 2 of the draft the "reach for a star" round. That aside, they haven't learned a thing except how to spend the yacht loads of money Jerry continues to be sitting on. All we have learned is that as Jerry goes more coocoo for Cocoa Puffs, Jr has become big man on campus, and that is not a good thing....ending our hopes for the team hiring a real GM of Foot Ops

They need to change the 2nd RD “reach for the star” strategy to “Just take the best remaining SEC DL”.

My reasons for optimism is that we have an above average QB and an average head coach, which is the best we’ve had since Parcells left.

We also have a superstar on D with some good complementary players that can change the game with pass rush.

We will break that back to back playoff thing.

He also knows that hiring a GM to run it doesn’t assure him of another ring. If it did, all those teams that haven’t even sniffed a ring in 10 years that employ GM’s wouldn’t be in that situation.

It is complete erroneous thinking on our part to assume anyone would have done any better because he is not built to be a hands off owner.

Every defense that has been top 5 over a three year span was big and physical. We are transitioning ourselves to be a big and physical defense.

Dak needs 100 yards on the ground to win. From the highlights I've seen of Tyler Smith he'll be a better run blocker than C.Williams. With the subtraction of Cooper our WR's will be better run blockers. When we won 13 games in 2016 Dak was throwing for about 232 yards a game. Our WR's core may not be as good as they were, but if we can run effectively we don't need them to gain 300 a game.

If you add those two things together we could be a better team than last year. A stronger defense and a better run game are exactly what we need. We won six games in a row last year, because we were gaining almost 200 a game on the ground. If we can get back to that, then we'd be unstoppable.

Shultz still sucks, but they are starting to get the picture. One more off-season and we'll be ready.

Agree, but can we sustain a 17 week season, not including post season with Zeke and Pollard carrying the entire load.
As the roster sits currently all we have at RB3 is Dowdle, Hardy, and a couple udfa rooks.
Not sure why this FO continues to ignore an area of the roster that is not only vital for ground game sustainability, but cap friendly RB3s with more upside than what we have been rostering are so easily obtainable.
Im hoping we bring in a couple of vet cuts for at least a look.
