What has this franchise learned that makes us closer to a SB?

I dont care about the distractors, Ive been in the fan club before.
Now I am much wiser, age and compassion have something to do with the journey, so I will answer this brilliant post Bobhaze with respect.
Thats what we see taking place clearly within the last 2 drafts at this point, and began seeing in 2000.
That is JJ and SJ stepping off the gas and pressure with this scouting dept. I clearly see a pattern of WM being able to directly communicate with the DC and OC personally with a relationship that is "respected" and "directed" on draft day.
More respect to what McClays' board says, and sticking to it and creating alot of 1st contract talent battles.
Peeps can crack off on JJ and SJ all they want for historical laughs and likes, but for those that have been paying close attention the pattern is easily identifiable.
McClay has earned the respect and is this franchises' silent GM guru.

Hope hus influence grows, it's our only hope.

Let's face it -- Stephen isn't going anywhere. This FO will always be dependent on others like Will McClay to appraise the talent, like it or not.

At some point, Stephen must adjust to the act of supplying addition talent beyond 3rd tier talent to bolster this roster. If not, we'll be stagnant.

As long as we have 5 -7 highly paid players, the rest of the roster will be littered w/ low budget JAGs. It's not 5 great players that make the best teams, it's 3 great players and a bunch of good ones.

Think about this. How much are/were we paying Dak/Cooper/EZ/DLaw/Tyron/Zach/Collins/Jaylon?

Just taking an estimate, looks like around $150 mil. Think about this, that would leave around 100 mil for 45 players. That's 2 mil/player.

It's not the individual player I have a problem paying, it's when you have 7-8 players all making top dollar that your roster is simply not good enough to advance in the playoffs. Sure, those 7-8 can get to the playoffs, but that's about it.

They have learned to build the team with youth and through the draft. They also are developing talent as well like they did with Kearse, Steele and others. A lot of fans don't understand what they are doing. They just went 12 and 5 and if they do it again they just might be right and make a lot of people look silly.

Actually, they might finally be learning, but not what you're referring to. What gives hope is the cutting of Jaylon/Amari/Collins, and most likely the continued cutting of overpriced players. The 12-5 means nothing, but the drafting of tough players like Osa and Smith and Golston and Ferguson means a ton. It could mean a change in philosophy, something that has been desperately needed for some time.

Jerry was even worse about overpaying than Stephen. Stephen is just the opposite in most instances to offset Jerry. I think JJ's influence was largely to blame for at least some, if not most, of the contractual miscues that Stephen has to deal with. We might not know for certain until Jerry is pushing up daisies. That has to change if our chances of being champs instead of chumps ever becomes more meaningful.

This franchise has learned absolutely nothing over their failures. They will never win anything until they get pedigree at the QB position. Thinking this team can win with some garbage 4th round over achieving QB is the same thing as the Vikings are doing. Many of you watched Allen and Mahomes dual it out and both guys wore down the other teams defense. The most impressive part about it was those defenses were playoff caliber defense. JOE Burrow did that with a crappy offensive line. These guys have pedigree and that's what it takes to move the ball against solid teams. Dak just comes up short mentally and physically. Jerry signing Dak was all about marketing just like he has always been. Jerry is the ringmaster of this circus.

We all want to see the Cowboys move to a place where they can compete for a SB or at least a conference championship for the first time in over a quarter century.

So two serious questions:

1. What has this franchise (and its leadership) learned the last few years that makes us closer to a championship for the first time in 26 seasons?
   
2. Is there anything that gives you confidence that this team will make the playoffs in back to back seasons for the first time in 15 years?

I’m curious where fans are on this. I’m hoping to be convinced by a compelling argument. Otherwise it seems our hopes to break this cycle of 26 years rests squarely on the shoulders of Lady Luck.

Jerruh Wayne Jones has done things His Way his entire life, and look where it has gotten him.. He is the multi-billionaire owner of the most valuable sports franchise in American sports. I'm quite sure ole Jerruh has learned a lot in terms of what it takes to win in the NFL. But his ego and arrogance prevent him from doing what is necessary to make the Dallas Cowboys a Super Bowl Contender. His main counterpart {Bob Kraft Owner of the N.E. Patriots} is someone that Jerry can learn from. He understands that it's not about who gets the credit, it's about putting the right people in positions of control in the Front Office.,ie GM | V.P. and allow them to do their job. Hire a capable Head Coach who is given complete autonomy in selecting his own coaching staff. Basically Jerry needs to try this Hands Off approach, but I'm afraid it's too late.. He has a real bad case of Jimmy Johnson-itis.. It still burns him that Jimmy got the credit for the 90's Cowboys Dynasty. Jerry wants to win, but it has to be on his own terms, doing it his way. It sucks for us, but all we have is Hope, Luck and Chance..
