What I am hearing Pickens, might be our best deep threat in years!

As always, nothing is certain with our Cowboys. But the season is shaping up to be interesting, at least. With good injury luck, maybe we can make a run? Hopefully so.

His skill set fits well with Lamb, there is no denying his talent, the biggest question will be his character on and off the field. What I have heard his issues on more due to being very emotional and immature, but not a team cancer as he is well liked inside the locker room. Time will tell if this was a good move or not, rather take the chance then having Tolbert/Mingo out there and teams taking away Lamb
I think the character stuff is more real
than a lot of fans are admitting. I listed out a laundry list of reported incidents in the “Pros/Cons” thread.

That aside the talent is legit. I would’ve preferred the route running / separator type but I did hear on a pod the other day his top 3 routes are gos, outs and comebacks and those are 3 of Daks top plays. Dak made it work with Gallup so no reason to think he can’t make it work with a better version of Gallup.

His character concerns are worrisome, no doubt. Not so much have to worry about him breaking the law off the field, but more so about missing meetings/practices, keeping his emotions in check. Dak best attribute has always been his leadership and relationships with all his teammates, he is going to have to keep him in line. Dez was a similar personality who really enjoyed playing with Dak. Time will tell if this works or not.

As you said, he is Gallup on steroids. Not a great route runner, nor a separator, but he wins all those 50/50 balls. Unlike Gallup he has greater length and vice grip hands. Gallup was more of a bod catcher that allowed defenders to knock the ball away, we would be see much of that with Pickens.

Character issues aside, his game is an ideal fit with the way Lamb plays. He has a year to prove his worth, if he has a good season, it is a win win here, can extend him or get that pick back in the process.

Yea - good player but there’s a reason Pitt essentially gave up on a 24 year WR on a rookie contract. He’s not also not on the same planet as prime Dez as a WR so you’d prefer not to have to deal with the drama of someone who isn’t even your #1.

Fingers crossed he grows up this year.

He's just 24. We traded a 3rd. This was better than any 3rd round wr we could have reached for in the draft. I look at this like he's part of our draft class in 2025. When examining our draft, you must include him in it as if he's a pick. Then we can properly judge it. When you do that, we may have graded out in the top 5 . We obviously went into the draft fully aware what the plan was and we implemented it beautifully. We did this with Pickens in mind. The guy has tentacles for arms. Much like CD in so many ways, but has more speed. Now our entire offense can eat. Wouldn't be shocked if our running backs have great stats too. Like you said, the man has never had a good NFL QB. He had to play with bums. Now he can just be him. I can argue that the pressure is off of him now. He won't be expected to be the only guy. Some of his antics might have been frustration from the ridiculous QB situation and how poorly the offense in Pittsburgh was run by Tomlin.
It is tough for any player when you have different QB's/OC's every year, you need that continuity, especially for a young player.

This offense hasn't had true balance since early in Dak's career when Zeke was at his height. If you can prove you can run the football, teams will not be playing that shell coverage any longer, where it will make passing that much easier. Pickens now makes teams think twice about doubling Lamb on every play, a player who could really benefit now is Ferguson who was also getting a lot of attention.

They decided Metcalf was the one who they wanted to move forward with. A far more talented player, who has a similar skill set.

As for Pickens, clean slate, it is up to him to prove his worth. Like that he isn't interested in an extension and is betting on himself.

Right now, offensive tackle and depth is my biggest worry. Got to give these coaches respect and a chance.
Development is important, but they cannot just rely on young players making that next step right away.

Last year CeeDee Lamb, he proved to me to be the top five receiver in the league. I’m not crowning this kid anything yet until he shows me he’s tough.

Serious question.

Dak lacked zip on the ball last year, can he even throw a deep ball to take advantage of his skillset?
He was injured, both strength comes from your legs and hips, and that’s where he had the problem. It’s a wait-and-see right now. But that was one of the better things about Prescott dropping dimes with the deep ball. We really missed a gallop.

They have put the most resources in fixing this area, not sold on Williams, but they should be better up front
Broaddus and Voch said the Cowboys think they are fine at running back. I am with you about not being sure about Williams and I have questions about Blue too. Like you I wasn’t a big Dowdle fan either so I just would have liked them to bring in a more reliable runner. Maybe Miles will surprise. I thought he was good with Philly a few years ago.

The current interior line starters will ensure that ability and when mixed with a variety of runners also, now. Tight ends and a fullback can improve ability to run where wanted.
I agree with your take but I am interested in seeing what offense Shotty will run. Supposedly he is going to run an offense that best suits Dak and to me that is 12 personnel two tight ends and two receivers so teams can’t key on either the run or pass. Dak plays best with play action. Since Mingo is such a good blocker maybe they can run this scheme out of 11 personnel as well.

To me, successes for this group of coaches will tend towards successes that followed Andy Reid when he got away from Philadelphia in his move.
