What I Don't Understand About Cowboys Fans?

I mentioned something earlier that I think sort of goes along with your last statement: I think there are some fans that would truly be angry to see Jerry hoist the Lombardi over his head, just because they're such Jerry haters, even though they're fans of the team.

That's a common dream the apologists like to use. Guess what? It's never going to happen. Jerry hasn't shown the ability to do so.

I love it when you guys say, "I can't wait to shove it in your face when Jerry hoists that Super Bowl trophy."

You can wait forever because it's never going to happen.

Very good opening post, Prox. Welcome to the board.

I continue to be perplexed by the very same question you have brought up. I have asked it myself many times around here and yet to have an answer. As you can see in this thread, you were met more with accusations and defensive postures rather than a true answering of your question. Don't expect that to change anytime soon. It's pretty sad that it results in that kind of reaction rather than a good quality, civil discussion. Only one poster that falls into your criteria really answered your question, and that was KJJ.

Due to the attitude on this board the last couple of years, I have recently begun tuning it out. I come here for news and to occasionally attempt to discuss issues that interest me, but I often find myself not reading through threads like I used to, and I have become accustomed to simply skipping over certain people's post because I already know exactly what they're going to say. I feel like I have to make my thoughts known about the lack of quality of the Dallas media around here as well. Other than WG's numerous news updates and Couchscouts excellent insight, I don't find anything else of use here anymore.

I used to have a good time here because good quality discussion happened. Now the only time I am unhappy as a Cowboys fan is when I visit this board.

It is because of the attitude of certain posters around here. I used to brush them off and think "haters gonna hate", but it just has grown to a point where it is not worth the time anymore. I know now that I will never get that question, "Why are you still a Cowboys fan?" truly answered.

I said recently that I believe if I were not a Cowboys fan, I'd probably hate this fanbase.

This occurs in my own family as well. There are a couple people in my family that I will not watch a game with anymore (except for Thanksgiving) because it is constant negativity no matter what they do. The only cheering that occurs is when we score a touchdown, then they're back to complaining the very next play.

If this team ever does achieve something great, it will be really interesting to see how those individuals react and feel. What's sad is that I truly believe they will look back and realize they missed out on the journey. A Super Bowl won't be as sweet for them because they didn't appreciate what getting there took. I for one am enjoying the journey with this team.
Just an honest question if you don't mind. Do you think fans shouldn't question some of the decisions that are made by the team? In fairness to all, It has been close to twenty years since the Cowboys were on top. Some of these "negative opinions" are pointing out mistakes that have been made. These are the type of post that I don't mind. Some of the Romo hate post or Garret sux post get old, but I actually like a good debate about legit problems. I don't care for the " silly sunshine pumping " post either, but some posters are quick to call you negative if you won't pump sunshine with them. Exactly where is the line that you cross that gets the negative label slapped on a poster? Does a poster have to agree with every move the team makes? You brought out some good points in your post and you always seem to be reasonable. That's why I'm asking.

To be fair, it seems like one-third of the threads are about this.

I just want to make my stance clear: I have no desire to shove anything in anyone's face when the Cowboys win their next Superbowl. I just think that there are some fans that would actually hate the sight of Jerry holding the Lombardi, which perplexes me. It has nothing to do with proving anyone right or wrong. You say I'd have to wait forever for him to hoist the Lombardi, because it'll never happen. So you are a 100% hopeless fan??

You can expect some negative and positive feedback. I too do not understand why some people do not seem to even like the team they root for. I couldn't be that way with a gun to my head. Most of them are still very loyal fans, just happy to be unhappy it seems. I can't explain it any other way because I just don't understand it.

Awesome another super fan post

That didn't take long.

It should not matter who host the trophy. I want to see a superbowl no matter who wins it as owner GM coach, who cares who lifts it up as long as the DALLAS COWBOYS are the champs! Thats all that matters. Nobody can say who is gonna win the super bowl. It could happen to any number of teams each year. There is always a FAV. but then a team comes out of nowhere and decimates all the fav. picks of the year!

Dude, I'm not judging you! I'm asking a legitimate question. How long would you continue to root for someone you don't believe in? Where's the line?

I agree, Jerry is NOT the Cowboys, but at this point the 2 are so strongly connected it baffles me how you could have such deep rooted disdain for Jerry and continue to cheer for the team on a weekly basis. Am I nuts for thinking this?

First of all you're making the assumption that i hate Jerry ,you know what they say about assumptions right?

I don't hate Jerry, i do however hate super fans and their holier then thou attitude

Why do you like poor results? You must really like it or there's not much point in being a fan of this team is there?

100% hopeless in Jerry Jones? If that means I have NO faith in his ability to get us a Super Bowl ... yep.

He has shown NO ability to lead this team since the inception of the salary cap and Free Agency. What makes you think he's suddenly got it right?

If he was not the owner of the Cowboys, he'd be just another rich fan watching from his living room.

I root for the Cowboys and bleed blue and silver. I also know the team suffers from a cancer. Am I to support the cancer also just because it's part of the team?

Then why are you a Cowboys fan? If you're so sure that the Cowboys will not win a Super Bowl, why root for them? This is exactly what the OP is talking about. This kind of attitude.

There are 2 million Mets fans in NY who KNOW they will die without seeing another World Series. Yet, they continue to root for the blue and orange year in and year out.

I love this team regardless of their ability to win another Super Bowl. So in your view, you only root for a team who can win Super Bowls? That's not a fan, that's a bandwagonner.

Jerry Jones is the direct reason why this team has been so mediocre over the past 16 years. You must enjoy mediocrity.

If you think Jerry Jones can lead us to a Super Bowl, then I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you.

So you hate fans who are positive and support their team no matter the results? I understand you want results as do every Cowboys fan, but there's nothing wrong with looking at positives instead of having a "realistic" attitude. There's nothing wrong with having a realistic attitude as well. No one can change how you root for a team.

In the past 16 years, what has Jerry Jones done that is POSITIVE?

Lemme guess. If Daniel Snyder was running the Cowboys, you'd be POSITIVE about him too.

I'm not assuming you hate Jerry: I simply posed the question - How long would you continue to root for someone you don't believe in? Where's the line?

However, I should've been more careful with my grammar/wording in the last paragraph of the post you're quoting, which was - I agree, Jerry is NOT the Cowboys, but at this point the 2 are so strongly connected it baffles me how you could have such deep rooted disdain for Jerry and continue to cheer for the team on a weekly basis. Am I nuts for thinking this?

I wasn't directing the bolded statement at you personally, but more as a general statement. As in - "how could a fan with such deep rooted disdain for Jerry and continue to cheer for the team on a weekly basis. Am I nuts for thinking this?"

I don't enjoy mediocrity. I want to win a Super Bowl badly. But the way you said that you have zero confidence in Jerry Jones ever hoisting the Lombardi trophy simply makes me question why you root for the Cowboys if you know they'll never win a Super Bowl under Jerry.

And no, you don't have to root for teams that win Super Bowls. This whole discussion is about why fans have such negative attitudes about this team and continue to root for the Cowboys despite being so set on that their not going to win a Super Bowl. It just baffles me how fans can have a mindset like that and continue to support their team.

I hate fans who think they are better then other fans because they don't see things the right way, their way. Doesn't really matter what side of the "homer/realist" fence you fall on

We don't have negative attitudes about the TEAM ... we simply don't have faith that Jerry Jones is capable of leading this franchise.

His history supports this line of thinking.

Can i buy a bridge because i am counting on that super bowl every year. I think we have a shot every year. I have yet to witness one. I never got to see one. I was a fan those years when they won them in the 90's. But i did not get to see it nor did i know what was going on. My dad never let me watch football, i was robbed of those times. I still got my first starter jacket from kmart.

Oh yeah, I'd totally be positive about Daniel Snyder, a man who spends more than Jerry and look at the Commanders now. At least Jerry can manage winning seasons.

If you don't consider this off season to be positive, then that's just your opinion. Besides not improving the offensive line as much as I liked, Jerry and company have done a great job this off-season in fixing this team. I'd say hiring Garrett was a POSITIVE move as I, personally, feel like Garrett will bring this team a Super Bowl.

This to me shows that you missed the point entirely. The point I was trying to make was - if you literally have no hope in the franchise, why are you rooting for them?? Isn't the point of being a fan cheering for something that you believe in? Something you have at least a small amount of faith in? You are so certain that the Cowboys will not win a Superbowl, yet you root for them?? Wha?

Love your innocence.

I wish I could believe we'd win a Super Bowl every year.

Do you still play dungeons and dragons?
