What if 1 Super Star was added to this defense?

I wouldn't mind 1DT Nick Fairley, making a trade for WDE Whitney Mercilus. On top of that signing SDE Pernell McPhee and drafting SDE Preston Smith.

WDE Lawrence- Mercilus-Mincey
SDE McPhee-Smith

DT's-Fairley-Brent-McClain-Crawford-Bishop

I don't think these moves are impossible and it shores up our Dline IMO.

Suh, Watt, or Brandon Marshall(T.will is a bum, and nobody could get open while Dez saw double teams)

We need a legit freak up front, and a real number 2 or number 1 playing the role of a 2.

I would be happy with Brandon Graham. He's miscast in the 3-4. 4-3 defense and more playing time would do wonders for him.

I still think we need at least on the back end. Wilcox and church are ok but still not there yet. I get they can cover well but they have let me down with tackling and angles.

Wilcox and Church are both SS, we need a FS badly.

No one on offense. Between Williams and Beasley we have two good receivers and we already have a top offense. We need guys who can play D so let's not waste money with players who can't.

What if everybody on the 2014 roster returned except they added 1 Super Star on defense?

Just for example, what if Nick Hayden was replaced with Donkey Kong Suh? Suh plays both the 1-tech and 3-tech. Putting him at the 1-tech would make all 10 other players better. The DEs would be better, Crawford would never get double teamed. The LBs would be more protected in run defense and the improved pass rush would make the secondary better.

I think this scenario is really only a dramatic improvement if the Super Star is a DLineman. I don't think replacing Carr with Revis would have the same impact.

I have not really looked at the other free agent options at DT. A 1-tech like Mebane would be terrific, but he is not a free agent.

At DE Hardy is the most talented, IMO. JPP has his issues and might never be a Super Star again, but he is obviously better than the DEs currently on the team. I'm certain that Houston in KC will be franchised.

And some how keep Melton with a good deal. I can deal with that but man it will be costly.

Cole B, ok. Williams sucks though.

To the OP, I think a stud pass rusher would make a huge impact on this team. Teams who don't have a pass rush (like the 2014 Cowboys) don't go far into the playoffs and never have. It was an overachieving team (and in general a healthier than average team) that would be tremendously better with a dangerous pass rusher on the team (especially if D Law was the DE on the other side after a year of development).

Also I don't rule out signing Hardy. I don't want non-RKG guys on the team but after reading the stories, it was a Ray Rice situation where the player is a total thug. It read more like a "late night drunk and stupid" where they haven't really shown who was the most at fault. If Hardy checks out otherwise, I wouldn't let that incident stop me from signing him.

I'm going to have to double check my spreadsheets but I'm pretty sure this defense isn't one player away.

They are not. At all.

They need quite a bit of talent to be really good.

But getting someone like Suh and a healthy, motivated, and ready Law and Lee for the entire year could prove to help the defense out a bit.

Dude...lol.

you're crazy.

T. Will made plays, once again, yesterday and in the playoffs. The guy is a perfect number 2 to Dez.

Spending big money on Marshall, when you're going to have to spend big money on a much better receiver in Dez, is just stupid.

And a far lesser player. Paea is a slightly above average player. I would hope that they can do better than that.

As a run-stopper he's below average.

As a pass rusher he's one of the better DT's in the NFL.

In 706 snaps he had 5 sacks, 11 QB hits and 31 pressures.

Suh in 875 snaps had 8 sacks, 12 QB hits and 37 pressures.

His numbers this year literally equal his previous three combined. As someone who saw each of his games this year (living in Chicago), he is slightly above average. The Cowboys can do better than him. Also, Suh is facing double teams snap after snap. Paea doesn't command that level of respect.

Just a hypothetical.......

Not saying we should. I don't take these type of threads all the way serious. I come in, with a mentality of Madden.

We can assume these two things in the best case scenario

1. Lawrence becomes a player
2. Crawford continued to become a player.

That means we're at best half way there on the defensive line.

Ideally, you want to finish that line in the off season. That means you have to bring in a free agent and spend significant resources in the draft on the defensive line.
