What if Brian Schottenheimer really is the right guy

What if Brian really is the right guy, with the help of Eberflus. Who many fans wanted to be promoted to DC and then HC.
Eberflus can bring a toughness to the defense. As he did in Indy and Chicago. That can help the offense and they need it.

All fans wanted a younger HC, that could relate to the players better. Be somewhat innovative. Not saying that Schotty is that person.
But he is not a retread coach that many did not want anyway (but yet they complain Jerry did not go after any of them). Yes other candidates were out there. This seemed rushed all of a sudden after what seemed like Jerry was dragging his feet about it all.

But who are we fans to say who would be better, though we think we know. Moore? What qualifies Ben Johnson over anyone else, other than he actually has called plays with success for Detroit. But HC material, none of us knows. Carroll, Zimmer, Chucky?

I am not a big fan of this move. I did not like the way the FO went about this. We known their failures for years now. We will see how serious they are come FA to see if they are willing to actually improve the roster. Or is all of this for nothing, again.

I know what the answers and posts will be. Same old stuff that has been repeated 100 times in every thread.

So fellow Zoner's, here is a challenge. Think outside of that box in your head, and think ... what if he can be innovative and was held back by MM ...

He might actually be okay as a HC... problem is, we'll never know with the dysfunctional Jones circus in place. He's not even allowed to pick his own assistant coaches.

Jerry and Stephen think they're the head coaches. BS is just a glorified OC who gets to hold press conferences.
We do not know yet his influence on any coaches that will be hired.

BS -- unlike Jason Garrett, for instance -- has a famous father head coach and has worked in several organizations and for multiple Super Bowl winning head coaches, so he knows lots of people. But he has zero association with Matt Eberflus. You really think he made that call?

Schotty could be good, we don’t know, the issues against him are how the hiring process played out and how he will be compared to Johnson, Glenn, vrabel, and coen whom the cowboys never even sniffed at.

The other issue is that Schottenheimer isn’t a coach with an offensive philosophy that we can expect a ton of creativity from offensively- at least that’s the perception, so it isn’t a cutting edge trend setting scheme as far as we know thus far. Now, all that matters are results, so we will see but on paper it’s not exactly awe inspiring and the way the process played out he’s unfairly going to be criticized because of his employer’s incompetence

Brian could go either way, the issue is it appears once again the Joneses didn’t have a plan. It seems they panicked when McCarthy decided not to take the extension. I also believe Kellen said no thanks. The Cowboys picked the coach that the owner and players are comfortable with. In football that is not good for success. Should have fired McCarthy after the Green Bay loss and made Quinn the head coach that would have made everyone happy at the time.

Now that he's here I'll give him the benefit of the doubt as he's a unknown quantity....both good or bad in terms of the HC position.

His track record with the Jets, Seahawks and Rams are fair game as an OC.

When you look at the list of Head Coaches since Jimmy (parcells excluded) the bar isn't very high for him to match the others.

Remember that Football is just entertainment......are you not being entertained?

Yeah like your positive reasoning that Zeke would come back and be a strong contributer.

You must be forgetting how this place was towards Quinn after that GB loss. He was being run out of town for the performance of the defense.

It really didn't matter who they hired. This place is has become the crybabyzone.

Obviously we won't officially know until September when we can see how the team really looks and plays. But I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. He deserves a chance. The Cowboys get back all those injured players and have a good off season there is a chance they make the playoffs. Hard to argue it was a unsuccessful year if he can do that in year one.

@jazzcat22 - he will now get his chance & maybe he does surprise. I have nothing against the guy so it's not like him failing would validate me. The real issue is that we all know he didn't get chosen as part of some exhaustive search conducted by competent football people trying to put the best product possible on the field. He got chosen because he is chummy with the owners, is willing to accept the pay they are offering & the meddling and there was no competition for his services.

I hope this is the fact that he was held back because Mike has his own basement offense! I hope he can bring some innovation to our offense and help Dak and this offense get moving.

On the other hand, what else can we really do about it, we just have to go with it, hell Ben Johnson might not be great where he's at and all the other coaches who got new jobs (glenn etc) let's see how things pan out!
