What if Brian Schottenheimer really is the right guy

@jazzcat22 - he will now get his chance & maybe he does surprise. I have nothing against the guy so it's not like him failing would validate me. The real issue is that we all know he didn't get chosen as part of some exhaustive search conducted by competent football people trying to put the best product possible on the field. He got chosen because he is chummy with the owners, is willing to accept the pay they are offering & the meddling and there was no competition for his services.
the part that hurts the most

What if Brian really is the right guy, with the help of Eberflus. Who many fans wanted to be promoted to DC and then HC.
Eberflus can bring a toughness to the defense. As he did in Indy and Chicago. That can help the offense and they need it.

All fans wanted a younger HC, that could relate to the players better. Be somewhat innovative. Not saying that Schotty is that person.
But he is not a retread coach that many did not want anyway (but yet they complain Jerry did not go after any of them). Yes other candidates were out there. This seemed rushed all of a sudden after what seemed like Jerry was dragging his feet about it all.

But who are we fans to say who would be better, though we think we know. Moore? What qualifies Ben Johnson over anyone else, other than he actually has called plays with success for Detroit. But HC material, none of us knows. Carroll, Zimmer, Chucky?

I am not a big fan of this move. I did not like the way the FO went about this. We known their failures for years now. We will see how serious they are come FA to see if they are willing to actually improve the roster. Or is all of this for nothing, again.

I know what the answers and posts will be. Same old stuff that has been repeated 100 times in every thread.

So fellow Zoner's, here is a challenge. Think outside of that box in your head, and think ... what if he can be innovative and was held back by MM ...

This hire is an absolute joke.

This was all about continuity and the Jones’s being confortable.

This wasn’t about doing what is best for the Dallas Cowboys.

This is a joke.

None of this what if garbage. It’s a joke.

That all you have?
Yes - especially when the guys history suggests he will be a failure. Jerry is apparently the first person to offer him a HC gig in his entire career. 28 years in the game and this is the first offer. That should tell you something. If he were worth a crap the offers would have been coming in many years ago, but they didn't.

Nobody wants him or any coaches to fail UNLESS they have already proved they cant do the job, then it makes sense to expedite the process. As of right now he has a clean slate so everyone is going to hope for the best, but given the organizational direction and how we've ended up here it doesn't instill much confidence.

Don’t fall for it. Honestly the issue isn’t schottenheimer, it’s the reason schottenheimer was picked. This was a hire about keeping on the same path that has failed. This was a hire about the Jones family not understanding what the deeper issues are, and choosing familiarity over taking a risk and having a fighting chance.

I guess the best thing we can hope for now is that they sink this ship so hard that we get a top pick in the draft.

I hope he is successful but it ain’t the coach, folks. IMHO.

In all fairness, I feel most of the reactions are not even towards him directly. I think as much as most of us hate this hire, we all hope some how it works out well for the Cowboys. The thing is, what have the Jones done to warrant people being confident in anything they do? Anything?

The whole coaching search and process was a mess. They didn't even interview any of the TOP candidates. Forget about interview, they didn't even call them. All this after they wanted McCarthy back and he said no.

Also, maybe he is a great coach and has great ideas and schemes etc. How much will he be allowed to actually coach things his way? This is more about Kerry wanting to be comfortable and remain in control like he always has been since Jimmy left.

You must be forgetting how this place was towards Quinn after that GB loss. He was being run out of town for the performance of the defense.

It really didn't matter who they hired. This place is has become the crybabyzone.

He'll have the chance to prove us all wrong. Happy to be wrong about him, but haven't been wrong about our coaches for 30 years.
Problem is is he will have until halftime of the first game before this group implodes if he is behind

From time to time, you can make a bad bet and have it turn out well. I don't think that it can be completely dismissed as a concept.

That said, this absolutely reeks of failure here. BS was brought in to fix the run game and it objectively got worse with him here. Remember "power run game?" LOL. MM didn't let him call plays. His offensive rankings have usually been bad. NO ONE in the NFL was pursuing him. One of Dallas' big issues is discipline and this sure looks like a country club hire.

This has to be one of the worst coaching hires I have ever seen in any sport.

Oh, and Eberflus was terrible in Chicago. That team radically underachieved on both sides of the ball. His Indianapolis rankings aren't really all that great either. Like so many others, I suspect that Dallas will be his last major job in the NFL.

0%chance this works out. Shotty is a terrible coordinator, has been for over a decade. Eberflus got exposed as a terrible leader who got way over his head. Maybe he'll turnout to be a decent DC but this roster will put his skills to the test.

he’s still a retread, just a lower level one. which is even worse.
