This hire is an absolute joke.

This was all about continuity and the Jones’s being confortable.

This wasn’t about doing what is best for the Dallas Cowboys.

This is a joke.

None of this what if garbage. It’s a joke.
I agree, the process was / is a joke.
I am just saying, or asking, why is he turns out to be the right guy. By luck if you want to call in that.

What if Brian really is the right guy, with the help of Eberflus. Who many fans wanted to be promoted to DC and then HC.
Eberflus can bring a toughness to the defense. As he did in Indy and Chicago. That can help the offense and they need it.

All fans wanted a younger HC, that could relate to the players better. Be somewhat innovative. Not saying that Schotty is that person.
But he is not a retread coach that many did not want anyway (but yet they complain Jerry did not go after any of them). Yes other candidates were out there. This seemed rushed all of a sudden after what seemed like Jerry was dragging his feet about it all.

But who are we fans to say who would be better, though we think we know. Moore? What qualifies Ben Johnson over anyone else, other than he actually has called plays with success for Detroit. But HC material, none of us knows. Carroll, Zimmer, Chucky?

I am not a big fan of this move. I did not like the way the FO went about this. We known their failures for years now. We will see how serious they are come FA to see if they are willing to actually improve the roster. Or is all of this for nothing, again.

I know what the answers and posts will be. Same old stuff that has been repeated 100 times in every thread.

So fellow Zoner's, here is a challenge. Think outside of that box in your head, and think ... what if he can be innovative and was held back by MM ...
This thread not really going how you thought, huh Jazz?

Imma still bookmark this one so we can come back at laugh at it later though.

He might actually be okay as a HC... problem is, we'll never know with the dysfunctional Jones circus in place. He's not even allowed to pick his own assistant coaches.

Jerry and Stephen think they're the head coaches. BS is just a glorified OC who gets to hold press conferences.
Exactly.

He might be good at this! But he'll never be good enough to overcome the Joneses and what they're going to do to the team/to him/to the fans.

We don't really know very much about the process beyond what a few idiot media folks tried to assume and turned out to be incredibly wrong. I'm not saying it was a well-oiled machine but I don't think it was as confusing as all of the guessing made it out to be.

Oh it is going exactly as I thought. Especially that you chimed in now. Which means absolutely nothing.
Yes bookmark to call me out. It makes you want to lose even more now. When will you do this, after the first play call you disagree with, which will be the very first play, or will you give it a few years?
Man I can't wait for it.

I mean a few quarterbacks have kinda turned it around after a not so hot start to their careers.
Names like Geno Smith, Darnold and Mayfield come to mind.

So I "guess" after more than 20 years as mostly a mediocre to poor assistant coach this guy could finally succeed as the head guy.

But that's about as good as my what if positivity can get.

Reap what ya sow imho.

I think Helman put it best...........this is his first HC job. The truth is we have no ideal whether he's going to fail no more than Ben Johnson will succeed. He's a boring and stale hire, no question about that but that doesn't mean he can't be a good head coach.

Obviously we won't officially know until September when we can see how the team really looks and plays. But I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. He deserves a chance. The Cowboys get back all those injured players and have a good off season there is a chance they make the playoffs. Hard to argue it was a unsuccessful year if he can do that in year one.
  :clap:Not the hire I wanted but he deserves his shot. See post #56

He’s had plenty of chances and failed as an OC. I highly doubt more pressure and more responsibility usually doesn’t make people better or qualified.

He doesn’t run motion, his offense hasn’t been good anywhere he’s been. He hasn’t even been top 5 in offense in his career. The guy just isn’t good. If they bring in a young OC or something I may change my mind but I’m sorry this hire is terrible. There is 0 chance he does well. Couple the fact that he hasn’t been good, he’s also going to have to deal with a cheap FO, a QB who’s falling apart, and a VP of player personnel who doesn’t spend or extend his players until the end of the window.

This is the worst possible thing that could have happened. And I haven’t even scratched the surface yet.

Ben Johnson has led top 3 offenses for his career as an OC.

our new head coach has only had a top ten offense once and never a top 3 or 5.

This comparison is nonsensical.

Maybe Ben, and obvioulsy he had, the right players. Maybe Brian was not afforded that luxury.
