What if Brian Schottenheimer really is the right guy

You must have thought Trance was a good idea.
At the time it was. Then Jerry screwed it all up.
First he gave Dak that stupid contract extension.
Second, when he was injured, he did not play Trey. He was like many, he feared if Trey played great and improved. He would get even more backlash of how stupid he looked, or how stupid he is.

Everyone knows this is true. But they are in denial. Dak has many fooled. Including the FO.

I think the screwup was not integrating MM, the one designing and running the offense, into the Lance acquisition while leaving him hung out as a lame duck. Of course MM is not going to play Lance unless he has to.

Is this a negative post by you
Say it ain’t so

The upside is that Schottenheimer and Eberflus are definitive underdogs. NO ONE really expects them to succeed...so hopefully The Joneses (who picked them) and these new coaches come in with HUGE chips on their shoulders, with a plan to shock the world. If they turn this franchise around, most of us fans and almost all the pundits will be in shock.

The chance of it happening? Slim. But they will have unadulterated, undeniable motivation. Hec, a lot of people didn't like Daddy Schottenheimer either, as he was a hard azz that wore out his welcome in a few different places.....though I believe he did have a long stint with the Chiefs.

Why would BJ pick Dallas over Chicago who has a promising young QB?
Even though I think Dak is better than his critics say he is, any coach in their right mind would choose a team with a young first-rounder at QB over one with a veteran it hasn't been able to win many playoff games with.

What if Brian really is the right guy, with the help of Eberflus. Who many fans wanted to be promoted to DC and then HC. Eberflus can bring a toughness to the defense. As he did in Indy and Chicago. That can help the offense and they need it. All fans wanted a younger HC, that could relate to the players better. Be somewhat innovative. Not saying that Schotty is that person. But he is not a retread coach that many did not want anyway (but yet they complain Jerry did not go after any of them). Yes other candidates were out there. This seemed rushed all of a sudden after what seemed like Jerry was dragging his feet about it all. But who are we fans to say who would be better, though we think we know.....So fellow Zoner's, here is a challenge. Think outside of that box in your head, and think ... what if he can be innovative and was held back by MM ...
Stranger things have happened. You never really know till you know. But we'll find out. I'm willing to give the guy a shot, we don't have any choice anyway. I'm not gonna count him out, that'll be up to him.

I’m curious as to what the threshold would be for many to admit they were wrong? Time has proven this board’s capacity to shift the goalposts is virtually limitless. So I’m wondering what he would have to do to get those types to change their tune.

It’s EASY for me to envision a scenario he wins 1-2 playoff games next year with a supposedly terrible roster and that gets played off as something other than him doing well.

How is that the threshold I mean everyone's saying around here that this could be the worst teams we've had since the Dave campo area they are calling it the Dave campo era revisited therefore we'd be lucky to win four games that's what they're saying that means the threshold would be eight games would be a miracle especially with our front office right do we keep forgetting that no matter who the coaching staff would have been they've been at a disadvantage to some of these other teams new coaching hires because they may not get provided with enough talent to be successful..

So how healthy is our team going to be the guys coming back that may not be ready for game one what are they going to do in free agency in the draft are they going to make smart moves what are they going to do with our 25 free agents this is as important as the listing of the names of our coaching staff which I think is being underrated but also overrating the other hires because where you have to look at this from who is our owner in GM and what are they going to do to help this new coaching staff...

There's a reason Ben Johnson wasn't going anywhere but the bears he recognized they had some young talent especially at quarterback they have a whole bunch of draft picks and they have a team hungry to even be where the Cowboys have been the last Four Seasons minus the losing seasons but they would love to have 3-12 and five seasons and go to the playoffs three straight years they would absolutely take that over the garbage that they are...

So I believe they're going to have a motivated front office with a lot of options and that is why he chose there and don't get it twisted 2 coaches that weren't going anywhere but where they went was Ben Johnson and Mike Vrabel they already were set they weren't going to choose any other offers it was closed the matter was never going to be an option for Dallas because those two were already taken.. I guess my point is Ben Johnson may appear to be the best choice on paper but in reality he has the best opportunity and could be given the most advantages and therefore it could prove out that way but it would have nothing to do with his name or experience or how great he could be it's gonna be his situation it's gonna be a lot better than here if we just go by narratives..

I sure hope Jerry Jones and Steven are so embarrassed and they're being told how bad a coaching staff they hired especially a head coach maybe they're motivated to do a little bit more in free agency be a little bit more best players available in the draft and don't reach no projects maybe they do something this off season to prove the detractor's wrong maybe they were motivated to do that i hope so...

So my threshold would be if they win 8 games maybe nine that would be more than what's being predicted let's not get it twisted that's what I'm hearing around the Internet that's what I'm hearing around here that this is going to be like the Dave campo years it's going to be embarrassing it's going to be terrible well if they improve on last year even one or two games that would be a pretty good result compared to the experts predicting doom and gloom...

Remarkably like when he let Romo play one series. Like...why even bother? Unless....

Brian Schottenheimer is just the latest name in a long list of spineless Jerry Jones hires to the HC role. Nothing will change and this franchise isn't going anywhere, least of all to a SB.

Obviously we won't officially know until September when we can see how the team really looks and plays. But I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. He deserves a chance. The Cowboys get back all those injured players and have a good off season there is a chance they make the playoffs. Hard to argue it was a unsuccessful year if he can do that in year one.
I agree, Shotty deserves a chance. If we want somebody to blame, make it Jerry Jones, our GM has been proving his clownship for years. Jerry could turn any good HC into a loser. He's a master at it!
