What if Collins beats out Leary and Green beats out Free? How great would that be?

Collins beats out Leary. Free is not getting beat out. He is the leader of the O-line and a pretty good player.

My concern is keeping Romo upright. having a mental whiff at RT means that a really good passrusher could have a free shot at knocking Romo out for a few games. If they plan on putting Collins at RT, then I hope they have him sit and watch until he is 100% on the protection schemes. Free has been a solid player for this team. No need to rush.

Free is a very good right tackle. He will not be easy to beat out. Green and Collins have their work cut out for them if either can win a starting job outright.

I think there is very little chance Green beats out anyone this year and that Collins doesn't work as much at T as he will G. Either one can play G or T though so if Free goes down then it could create an opportunity for someone.

I think they both will push Weems though so he'd better bring his A game if he wants to guarantee himself a spot on the 53. He has less leverage now.

Do I want to give up a 1st, which would probably be the 32nd pick in the draft for a hall of fame running back to rent him for 3 or 4 years? Absolutely.

You're overvaluing draft picks.

The best part of a 1st round draft pick is the POTENTIAL to get a pro bowl caliber player for cheap. That being said you still usually have to wait at least a year or two before they really develop, and then after their 4th year you have to start paying them a veteran salary, and that's again assuming they work out in the first place.

Assume for a second that WITH AP, we're at least as good as we are last year and draft after 27th

Here are all the Cowboys drafted in the first round after 20 in the last 10 years

Travis Frederick
Dez Bryant*
Felix Jones
Mike Jenkins
Anthony Spencer

Outside of Dez who was a huge fluke, there isn't a player on the list who I would trade for AP straight up even if it meant only keeping him for 3 or 4 years. Again, he is a hall of fame player.

I don't see any reasonable doubt he's a player. The issue here is the cost to the team now and the future as well as is he really necessary for success. If you can have an effective running game at less expense then that's a plus.

I don't want an effective running game, I want a dominating running game.

If it was late in the season...great.
No matter how good either end up being, Romo is at risk with two rookies in there week 1
Fwiw, I don't see Free getting beat out right away. Leary maybe.

Barely a 1st round draft pick and well worth it if he takes us to the Super Bowl.

Like what your saying and trust me I am on board with bringing AD in just not at that price. I still hope he gets released and compensation is a moot point. I would rather have him at 30 then CJ at 30. Heck I would rather have AD on this team over any RB in the NFL right now.

I don't think he gets released at this point.

I only see one happening. Collins makes Leary take several seats. This is getting good!

Now... They'll finish it off with picking up a starting RB soon. We have a solid pool of backups right now...

I would trade Randle, Leary, Hanna, and our next years 1st round pick for AP.

If Minnesota said no to that, they are being straight up spiteful.

I think I'm with you on that one. Seems pretty reasonable. Probably won't happen though.
