What if Collins beats out Leary and Green beats out Free? How great would that be?

I fully expect Collins to be the starting LG day 1. I think he is going to have a Zach Martin-like rookie season.

This is no knock on Leary. At all.

Most first rounders start with the first team

Because first rounders come in and usually fill a need. Guard wasn't a need for us, Leary played at a high level and is a good guard. He needs to earn the spot and we shouldn't hand it to him because of his projection in the draft.

His projection is based on his displayed abilities. He looks very much like an upgrade over Leary in every where. And trust me I like Leary, I'd really like to see Leary take his game up to a higher level and see Collins supplant Free.

Gibson has a high upside, but don't get your hopes up that he will see the field this year. He is very raw as a football player.

I see him a lot on the lines of Parnell, except with more experience and talent. He is a developmental player, but one worth giving some time to.

What's it going to be then, eh?

He will be an interesting case as he is a prime practice squad candidate. But he has enough athletic traits that a team is probably going to claim him off of waivers if he is cut.

He is a far superior athlete at the position than Parnell ever was.

Love the potential of this o-line, and the more competition the better. I do believe Collins is that good and will unseat Leary at LG. Garrett said they will play the best 5 o-linemen, but I dont see 5 guys better than Doug Free right now, who's been a pretty good player for the Cowboys.

I hate the 53 man roster limit and the unprotected practice squad.

It seems that UDFAs can usually be retained on the PS and 7th round picks seem to be about a 50-50 or slightly better chance to be retained.

To be honest, i dont care for the "beating out" talk. Lets talk about something realistic we can do and something that will affect our games. Lets keep the line good enough for great rotation and keeping that O line fresh. who cares who beats who , get them to play to their strengths and make this Oline a revolving door that doesnt drop in talent as the new guy comes in. Keep them fresh keep the line changing tactics and lets do something good.

I dont just care for teh nasty streak as so many see it. Lets talk about what i loved in 2007 that is hardly mentioned. Lets start imposing our will on the opposing defenses. Lets get those lines not just having the goal to get a sack but now having to try to fight off our line as it crushes down on them like a wave. I want defenses saying "it was like a giant wave that came crushing down on us, instead of goign forward, we went back"

May the best players win.

I don't think Green can beat out a healthy Free this year. Next year maybe.

And first round picks come in and bust EVERY YEAR. Simple fact is, Leary played at a high level and there is absolutely NOTHING that tells us that Collins will come in and do the same. If he looks inferior in camp, you just throw him out there because he was supposed to be a first round draft pick.

You earn your spot, that's exactly what will happen here with Collins. No use even discussing this. He's not replacing some bum guard.

I am not going to miss Frees holding penalties ONE bit if he is pushed out.

He had 1 false start and 3 holding penalties all year. Tyron Smith had 8 total penalties and 3 holding penalties.

I think Collins will learn his game, and become next year's starter at LG.

What makes people assume Collins has to actually beat out anyone? Maybe I'm wrong, but I can't imagine he was brought in to not be an immediate starter.

Probably not going to happen but, damn, if it did what an o-line that would be. 5 offensive lineman, all young and getting better throughout the season. I would be ecstatic.

The great thing is that they don't need to win a starting job as a rookie. If they do it's a bonus. They do need one of them to be good enough to be the swing tackle. I would like to see the Cowboys give a few snaps to young backup OLinemen this season when possible. I don't want to get to this time next year and still not know if a guy like Green can play.

And thank goodness we have ready made replacements.

I don't know if they're ready yet. I think we get spoiled on Zach Martin. Not saying I'd be shocked if Collins came in and took a job because I'd never underestimate a hungry and motivated young man in the NFL. But at the same time I think it's asking a lot for him to take two very solid offensive linemen spots. We can afford to work him in slow when he's ready.

Terrible idea. Offensive lines need continuity. Rotating them would be a awful.

One will happen this year, and the other next year.
