What if Jason's in-game decisions are as poor as they have been? Where do we turn?

I'm an optimist, but realist, I think.

Sorry everybody but thinking that perhaps even though Jason has been relieved of in-game OC responsibilities, we might learn that it *wasn't* the OC stuff that was responsible for our bad in-game/clock/etc. decisions. We might learn that it was just Jason. Hate to say that, but hey, Jason has been very consistent through his coaching career here.

My question: Where would we turn mid-season, if things turn bad, this season, next season? ... No young OC mind for a HC, nor would Kiffin or Marinelli could run the team much, or would you want them to. ... Who would be HC if we open bad this year, or next?

I think of why Wade was fired after 13-3, 9-7, 11-5, and hey, a playoff win! .. before the dreadful 1-7 start. Wade was still owed about $5 million on his contract at that point, which Jerry ate. ... (IMO Jerry wanted to begin the Jason Garrett era at that point, since he was paying Jason about as much as Wade or perhaps more even though Jason was just OC.) ... I will always wonder why the team played so bad in the 1-7 start. I can tell you that the most devoted players to Wade were the DL especially Rat. Rat brought his DL and perhaps some LBs around to listen to every word that Wade said after games, while other players were hollering in the shower and didn't bother coming out for the game ball presentations in the locker room, even when the Cowboys won. (Damn you figure it is easy to lose a team, if Wade could lose one after his good record here.)

At this point Jason isn't owed too much more than Wade was when he was fired - perhaps a million or two more, closer to $8-9 million or a little more over the next two seasons, so you would think Jerry would eat it if needed.

Jason's in-game gaffes kept coming last season, after a year-and-a-half of head coaching before that.

Jason's 8-8 records last two years have been completely consistent with his rank in scoring offense since he's been OC - completely average in the league, or a slot or two above. The outliers in his scoring offense being 2007 with way-high ranks with Sparano's designs (and Jason calling the plays (?) .. and in 2010 we were 9th I think in scoring offense in the dreadful year we opened 1-7 - I think because we were playing from behind with backups on the other team letting us move down the field and score at will, once we were down so many points, at least that first half of the season.

I'll shut up now.

Unlike previous years with young bucks like Rob Ryan who could have manned the HC thing mid-season, I don't know what we can do this season if s*** goes bad.

I don't mean this to be a snarky pessimistic question but just thinking that Jason may screw the pooch some weeks on the time clock etc. and cost us wins like he always has. Then what?

I think we stick with him no matter what. If for some reason we just really shouldn't keep him, THEN we go with Lovie or Chucky next year.

Also though...what if, a player mental mistake, a penalty [alex barron hold] or one Witten's many false starts, what if those didn't happen, and Dallas at least made the playoffs, as well as winning the division.
What if Dez's finger didn't go out of bounds, and that game propelled the team to win the division. Would anyone put an emphasis on Jason's mistakes. Would they loom as large.
I doubt we would be saying, well it may cost them home field advantage. But I'm sure it would have been brought up.

If Dez's catch was good, we would be saying how Jason's team fought for him, he had them motivated to come from behind. The team plays for Jason.

Basically, and I know what you are saying, but this is a new year, new problems to solve, let's see what happens this year. Even though fans and especially the media can't let go of the past.

Go Cowboys, Go Jason, lets do it!!!!!

Don't think you're going to find a better mesh with another head coach as you have with Jason Garrett, given the Cowboys particular situation.

Find me a head coach who makes perfect game day decisions, and I will find you one that you didn't research properly....

We are already hearing media folks question how Callihan is going to call plays and make O-line adjustments. Let's just see how it plays out.

I love this myth of him costing us games left and right.

But please keep repeating it, I am sure there are plenty of the uninformed to influence with the bogus repeatition.

It's not "left and right" but he HAS made some baffling late-game decisions as head coach. There's no denying that. The Ravens game last year comes to mind.

I don't think the OP is being unfair. It's a valid question: Garrett was relieved of his play-calling duties and the supposed benefit is that this will improve his game-management.

I like Garrett overall, but I'm not sure I agree with all of his logic when it comes to clock management in late-game situations.

I am sure if he costs us a few games most of us won't mind. I mean, seriously, who wants their team to win?

I believe in what Garrett can bring to the team as HC. We did fall short of the playoffs in the final game of the season and he still led our team to a possible playoff berth with a decimated roster. He deserves time. Because he's our coach the entire media will always place him under a larger scope

The myth is that he didn't cost us games. But keep repeating it. Maybe if you do, people will start to believe it.

If Garrett does not work out this year the new coach will be Jerry Jones, he has a 40 year old mind and would look great with a whistle and wearing those coaching shorts.

I didn't mind him at all as a play caller, so I'm not expecting all that much improvement on that basis, anyway. I do think our team is getting better and better, overall, though. It should be fun to watch early in the season to see how or if things in-games look any different.

The only way that happens is Romo getting hurt and you can't put that on JG.

I am not a Garrett fan, never was. With that said.......

I see the progress this team is making, personnel wise. He is weeding out the spoiled apples and bringing in his type of players. So far, they seem to love playing for him. He has made some bad coaching decisions, but I am not sure they directly led to a loss; well, maybe 1 or 2 over the years(Balt and Ariz. I think it was).

I think he just had too much on his plate by calling plays and being the HC, an inexperienced HC at that. I feel that he over-analyzes things at times which leads to questionable in-game decisions. Hopefully, he has learned from past mistakes and gets better.

No matter what happens during the season, he will not be fired and replaced with an interim. In the extremely rare chance that he does, I think Callahan would just step in until seasons end.

I am not wishing that he fails, tired of changing coaches and schemes. But, if this team avoids key injuries and they still produce a .500 record or worse, then perhaps Jason is not the guy.

Injuries and turnovers derail us more than anything else IMO.

We are due for some good health...

when 1 or 2 games is the difference between watching the playoffs and being in the playoffs, your head coach can't cost you games.

There was one season where I would certainly put at least 3 games on him.

The reason a team like the Patriots are so successful is because they constantly get into the playoffs, and thus their chances of getting to the super bowl are enhanced. Belicheck doesn't cost the Patriots many games if any.

Jason Garrett isn't Bill Belichick.
Then again, he also didn't cost us at least three games in any of his seasons.

I know I will get LOL at but here goes my wish list IF JG is fired, give me a Good OC and DC with Ray Lewis as a HC just so he can get my Boys fired up before every game LOL
