What if Morris is better than Elliott?

Morris is probably going to start the season as the lead back, Elliot will get a series or two but the Cowboys aren't going to overload him early, the bigger question is who's getting traded or cut, it's looking more and more like McFadden and or Dunbar are the odd men out, either getting cut or traded although I could the Cowboys carrying four backs for now...
lol No way, no how, will Zeke not be the starter week one, assuming he's healthy.

Right now, we know absolutely little about Elliott. Our limited information so far is that he is injured and can't play but looks like he is having a great time on the sideline smiling all the time.

Elliott gets nothing given to him from me right now. For all I know he can be another Trent Richardson. We don't even know if he is as good as Darius Jackson. I know it is not popular but I would have Elliott as 3rd string right now. He has to earn it. We don't need some RB thinking he was drafted with a silver spoon in his mouth.

Ya, Zeke would have had a tough time getting a 3.0 average vs the Dolphins last nite as Jackson did. Glad you aren't GM. Zeke as 3rd string. lol.

It might be a bit before we find out. As of right now, Morris is my week 1 starter, he earned and deserves that role. Zeke has yet to see the field and if he doesn't play next week, then he should be eased in.

I see no reason to throw Zeke right into it against the Giants with little to no pre-season IMO.

Everything you said makes perfect sense -- but...

I hate that I'm going to say this but for the life of me, I cannot stop thinking that this "tweak" of the hamstring, that kept Zeke out of the dog days of camp and gets better at the exact time to be ready for the dress rehearsal 3rd game of the pre-season is more than a coincidence.

It feels like "the ole' hamstring tweak in camp" trick worked like a charm.

He's going to get two full weeks of practice along with probably a half of a game against arguably the best-starting defense in football to be ready for the Giants.

To be honest, for a RB, Ithat's all you really need. He knows the playbook, he's healthy and fresh and I think every single coach and player in the organization knows he's going to tear it up.

he hasn't played in a game yet and this isn't college....he won't be starting game one...

Your 4th overall pick in the draft should be starting unless he's injured.

That's the point. That's why everyone said we absolutely had to use the 4th pick on a TB.

Great problem to have folks!

And don't forget Gurley was taken what at 10 and was injured and on PUP. Zeke will show what he has at Seattle. As good as Morris has looked I kept thinking to myself last night if Zeke hits that hole he's gone! The holes are enormous!

The best player plays. I personally don't care about draft status or financial investment. If a guy is better he should be the number 1 at that position.
This...

But I can't wait to see the FREAK on Thursday.

The real thing to talk about as far as Morris goes is that McFadden will likely not make this team.

I cling to the comment by Daryl Johnston who was a color man along with Babe during the broadcast last night.

He said he saw Elliott within the last few days take a swing pass and as he ran, his speed and ability took away the angles of the defenders.

Now put this in perspective. the talking heads for the Cowboys, Eatman, the sidelines guys for the broadcast, and some "social media maven" woman who asked the questions fans text stated Wilcox is doing what he normally does, which is to take the wrong angles.

For the defense, the angle to the moving ball carrier/receiver/quarterback is what determines the success or failure of the tackling.

Elliott erases the angles with his speed and ability.

That comment by Johnston, a man who played this game and knows this game, caused me to smile from ear to ear. Even more than when Johnston stated Elliott can take it to the house on any given play.

I like Morris, and he shows some great moves, and a wisdom about his skill set. I enjoyed how he clung to the offensive line, using them as a shield as he found the crease and burst through. Patience has its own rewards.

I suspect as jazzed as most are about Prescott and what he has shown, when Elliott arrives in full health, he will be exactly what his draft status suggests. An amazing player, and the envy of fans throughout the East and league.

It's good to be a Cowboy fan right now. Even with the question marks that face this team.

If Zeke somehow isn't ready to play next week and misses the PS games, can you justify handing him the starting gig in week one vs the Giants? Morris has proven that he is capable.

Now, if Zeke gets some work in and looks ready, he should absolutely start.

I said that. He has to be healthy.

But the reason, according to people on this board, that we had to take Elliott at 4 was because he was a day one starter, elite, bellcow, etc.

Now people want to not start him, ease him
in, limit his carries, etc.

Yeah, let's put a lot of weight on those preseason 3rd and 4th quarter runs behind the backups and backups to the backups OL and the defense knowing with 99% probability the play will be a run.

And I said "right now" third string and he has to earn it. I expect him to move up but I am not just giving him a starting position. I do miss Parcells making the top pick in the team's draft the waterboy during camp. Keeps them humble.

To me, Elliot is Morris with bunches more quickness and speed.

Won't surprise me if Morris starts game one, but only because of hamstring concerns.

I loved the Elliot pick when it happened and Morris doesn't change that. The idea of two elite-quality RBs splitting 35 touches a game with the best OL in football blocking and Tony Romo throwing sounds like a fantastic plan to me. They both stay fresh and are trucking DBs all the way into February.
