Then what do we do. He will be out for a long time and when he comes back he might not be the same. Not to mention timing issues.

My guess is that he'd miss almost all of the preseason games, but would be ready for the first preseason game. But hamstring tears and major pulls are something that will usually re-cur again and again and often times the player just isn't the same until he gets full rest on it over the offseason.
