What in the world will they do with Jaylon Smith?

I'd slow your roll. Cox has barely flashed on special teams and Neal looked like the worst player in camp until this past week.

Cox had a very good game last night, showing better instincts, speed and tackling ability than Jaylon. He had 2 tackles for loss last night. He looks like a rookie at times, but he is going to be a solid LB for Dallas.

Parsons, Neal, LVE, and Cox are an outstanding group. If Smith was an undrafted free agent, he would be cut.
he will start the season, but by mid season he will be benched.....or changed to a DE...not sure what to do with him. he is a liability in coverage or anything to the outside and he hits 30% of the right holes in run defense...

Neal and Cox haven't been anything special thus far. Jaylon is still useful when used properly, he's just not worth the $. He'll be here all season and see meaningful snaps throughout. He'll be gone before the 2022 season.

I think Cox will be a good player for the Cowboys, but in what little I focused on him against the Cardinals, he didn’t seem to play all that well.

I had the opposite impression.

Did well taking on blocks both dipping and stacking. Nice form tackling. Those were his biggest question marks coming in.

His speed shows up on the field and he had an excellent open field tackle saving a much longer return covering a kickoff in the second half.

Dan Quinn has no use for him, but the contract makes him uncuttable.

Will he be active on game days if everybody is healthy?

You're probably right, but... which quality player will be on the bubble, and then be stashed on the practice squad, then ultimately lost to another team because of Jaylon Smith? ... I hope the Cowboys have the guts to let Jaylon go so that a quality player can make the roster.

I fear Jaylon Smith was little more than the unfortunate victim of circumstances that Jerry felt would place him in the role of a savior! o_O

In view of the results that have come in the years following his welcome into the Cowboys' fold, how well has that situation worked out?
Casinos love to see plungers like Jerry walking in the door.

Can't cut him due to cap. I suspect he will be gone before the 5th league day of the 22 season. I think it is clear the team won't be playing him every down this year which is fine with me

A trade would be cap viable, but who is taking him?
I don’t think anyone would take home even if he was cut

I disagree teams have cut or traded players with higher cap hits. where there’s a will there is a way.
Not non-QBs who aren't liabilities in some way (attitude issues, legal issues, etc) and who don't save huge dollars in the future by cutting now
We are counting on rookies that have never played, an injury prone LVE and a converted safety. I'm no Jaylon fan and would trade him for a 7th right now to get rid of him but It's a $9.8M cap hit whether he is here or cut this year. It's an additional $6.8M in dead money next year if we cut him now and if we cut him next year but before his salary guarantees it's the same $6.8M but we can split that dead money to $1.6M in 2022 and $4.2M in 2023 when we get more cap space. It's just stupid cap management to cut him now and isn't happening if he remains a "team guy".

One of the most surprising moves of the NFL offseason thus far was the Rams' decision to cut Todd Gurley. It cost them $20.15 million in dead money, second-most in league history. It left him off the roster less than two years after signing a four-year extension, which was set to begin in 2020.

I said this 6 weeks ago...cutting him and eating the money FAR offsets the distraction of keeping him around and feeling the need to play him out of any "loyalty reasons" or the crazy pipe dream that he may get better....if he is not playing, I'm telling you that he will be a BIG distraction....just get rid of him, so any temptation is 100% removed. He is NOT one of the top 3-4 LB's on the team....playing him in any capacity, is a detriment to the team. Booger needs to sack up and act like a real GM for once....the Defense will instantly be better with him and his Romo jersey far down the road kicking a can...with his drop foot.
