I had such high hopes for this group going into the season.

We had talent, ability, improvement and growth from previous seasons.

Osi and Gallimore looked posed to have break out seasons.

Now they are little more than speed bumps to the opposition.

I mean things are so bad that we had to make a mid season trade for Hankins.

Is it their positional coaching being poor ? Injuries ?

I am not good at watching game tape and grading out players, but I am just curious if anyone here has any ideas on what ails

this group of players?

Osa is a smaller DT and has to take on doubles way too much for a guy his size. He’s gotten worn down. His best work has been when Hankins plays.

Gallimore is not technically sound and gets destroyed on double teams too many times for him to be a consistent force. His best trait is his quick twitch getting upfield but we don’t use him much as a 3T due to our needs at the 1T.

Bohanna is hit or miss, but he’s slowly getting better. With Bohanna and Watkins as backup 1T/run down DT’s that’s fine. But you need a dominant or at least double team eating 1T starting to really unlock the Osa types.

Hankins was a good start, but with the lack of immense holes on this team I’d like to see us get a real bully 1T either in FA (not gonna happen) or with out 1st/2nd round pick.

Me and @Cowboyny had our fingers crossed for Alim McNeil but Detroit scooped him up. Would’ve been the perfect guy, he’s played well in Detroit.

- as a 3Tech .i don't see a pass rusher in Gallimore. ..and he's not a ideal 1 Tech...he plays too high and tall and that makes it easier for blockers to negate his leverage and power.
i see him as a mere rotational guy despite his athleticism.

- Osa i'm seeing him as a rotational guy as well. On occasional he'll flash a pass rush play or a play into the backfield,..but those plays are just too far apart on a game to game basis.
on a four man front, he's too small inside for a 3 tech,..and not explosive and quick enough for a full tine RDE ...

- Watkins is a typical serviceable rotation guy as well. No idea athleticism but a workman like approach.

- Hankins is a pure 1 tech- a big dough that's meant for one thing -run stuffing , and he's a fairly serviceable one at that.

- Bohanna may be suffering from a bum knee. but he's had various injuries that may have slowed him, but he's yet to make an impact since being drafted.

- we can always say we need to draft a stud DT, ..but good luck with that. They don't just fall off trees.

Osa is more of a one gap speed rush to the QB kind of DT

Gallimore shouldve been doing what Hankins is doing right now

Front office doesnt value the position, it's an after thought. We are trotting average at best talent out there. Need run stuffers and guys who can consistently muddy the pocket. We dont have that at the moment.

Not good from a technique stand point. Play too high. Get pushed aside to easily. Need to play lower and attack at thigh level.

So then the better question would be what is going on with your talent evalution? Because our DTs suck and have for many years.

Tackles, we don't have tackles, we have pass rushers.
This defense is built to rush the passer.
This defense needs to figure out quickly how to blow up an RPO or we are doomed post season.
Its looking like we might have that defense already, just not telling everyone like SAS just yet but we like to keep him blinking don't we...lol
Thats what is really satisfying at this point in my life and how long Ive been following this team....
Its watching dirt like SAS twitching a bit, and that should make Philly fans just a bit nervous since SAS is your biggest fan leader.
Love Michael Irvin forever, that is true blue as it gets right there.

It's stubborn Dan Quinn! He made the wrong choices on which DTs to keep and which to let go.

The eagles offensive line completely dominated that group. It’s the single biggest need for this football team. And has been for years

Nothing is wrong: We just don't have any DT's. We use LB's and DE's and the occasional safety.
