What is more important, Team or QB?

Depends on the team and the QB.

100% this..

If Patrick Mahomes is your QB then you can trot just about whatever around him and he will make it work..

Dak... You can put a bad team around him and he will get you 7-8 wins at best. That’s the ceiling.

The problem with Dak and fans on this website is they still think decent QB play is so hard to find and drafting a QB in round 1 is still this big scary thing. It’s not.

We just signed a QB this weekend that if Dak sits out that we don’t lose a whole lot on the field,if anything at all, and there is no way Dak is 32 million a year better than Dalton.

Team is more important, but the QB position is more important today than 20 years ago because of how the game has changed. It’s much more of a passing league now. You haven’t seen any Johnsons or Difers win the Super Bowl in the past 15 years.

Nick Foles.

Also, Flacco and Eli are better than Dilfer and Johnson but they aren’t too far from it.

Flacco had the rookie deal going for him and Eli just somehow won it.. Mostly defense and a nice flinch pass or 2 for Eli.

True. That's why if you have a competent, but not great, QB, you win with mostly defense. With a smothering defense, you can play it close to the vest with safe plays on offense and then as long as you score a decent amount, you can win. It's how the Ravens won it all with Dilfer.
Yes but that was 20 years ago. It’s not going to happen now with how the game is played. Team is still more important but you’re not going to win the Super Bowl with Dilfer or Johnson now.

Exactly. Almost all of these QBs are HOFers. Flacco and Foles are the recent exceptions, but both played great in the playoffs and Super Bowl.

He played great though. He wasn't carried by his team the way Dilfer and Johnson were. Plus, it’s a complete anomaly and not the norm at all.

It still Nick Foles at the end of the day.

These play callers can spread it out and run enough smoke and mirrors to get decent production out of almost any QB.

We get random guys like Gardner Minshew and Kyle Allen out of nowhere every year coming in and producing.

These QBs are in a spread offense all through high school, college, and again in the Pro’s.

Not many teams have a QB they don’t like.

We’re talking Super Bowl, not regular season games.

Scheme (coaching) was the difference here. I would also argue that some of these teams were carried by a defense (Bronco's & Giants for example)

Trent Dilfer won a Super Bowl. Dan Marino did not.

Next question.

Interesting response..........Dilfer is on record saying he was smart to know he on a stacked team and his main focus was NOT to lose games. In other words, play conservatively while making one or two critical plays a game. Marino, on the other hand, had nothing. Hell, I can only two of Marino teammates for his entire career ( Marks boys ...Duper and Clayton (lol) ).

In some instances, yes. But, if you look at the list of Super Bowl winning QBs in the past 20 years, most are HOFers.

Yeah I brought up Nick Foles to focus on the micro game and brought up the rest of the league to show the macro..

If you want to win a Super Bowl you need 2 of 3 things..

1. A QB on his Rookie deal or an elite vet taking a paycut.. (None of this highest paid in the league garbage especially for a non-elite QB)

2. A great defense that hits the QB and collects turnovers.

3. Great coaching.. (The our guys are better than their guys coach needs to be pointed to the high school level) Schematics win football games and Superbowls.

Didn't MM say defenses get you to the Superbowl but QBs win them? I may have flipped it but it was something like that.....lol

C'mon Catch.......your # 1 doesn't hold water. Aikman, Brees, Brady, Manning (both) all won Super Bowls with major contracts.
