What is taking so long with Greg Hardy?

What in the Sam Hill is taking so long? Is this a decision or a negotiation?

Just go ahead and uphold the decision so we can get the appeal process underway.

Jiminy Christmas.

“I think it’s usually two weeks, is the time frame,” Jones said after OTAs on Wednesday. “I don’t think it’s a rule or anything, but that’s usually what you expect. Sometimes it can be sooner.”
Judging by that, we could see a decision in between the end of OTAs on June 11 and before mandatory minicamp on June 16. The NFL hasn't set an exact date, but be on the lookout when this time frame comes around.

More than likely a negotiation. If the NFL drags their feet, the process could drag into the regular season meaning he may not play even if the suspension is over turned. The NFL is likely trying to use this leverage to get him to agree to 6 games, but they know thy likely would have to settle between 2-4 games.

I think the Organization is smart enough to be planning now for the worst case scenario which is 10 game and hope it is much less. So when the league hands it down which likely will be around June 11th to the 16th if as Stephen says is the norm

No reason for it to drag out beyond this week. Leaves nearly 3 months for this to be settled in court if needed.

It should not take so long for a decision. The only positive thing about this is Hardy will be fresher for the last part of the season and not as much wear and tear. Hardy will be a beast in the playoffs.

I understand Goodell dishing out the excessive punishment for appearances sake, but what's the point of trying to rig the outcome of the appeal? Goodell made his "statement", now let the appeals process follow its rightful course and deliver the punishment prescribed by the rule book at that time.

I wish I could see that positive spin you see. It takes time to be in football shape and the only way to get there is playing games. IMO, he won't be fresh after his suspension, he'll be rusty and not ready for prime time no matter how good of condition he keeps himself. The only solace I'm taking out of this situation is the last point you made... Kraken in the playoffs will be amazing to watch.

From what I've read of the off season workouts, it sounds like The Kraken is very impressive and looking like he is ready to start throwing OL around today if need be. I'm sure there will be a little rust that need knocked off. But I'm betting he shows up ready to play close to 100%.

The longer this drags out the more the Goodell looks guilty of abusing his power in the first place. If the 10 game suspension was fair under the rules of the CBA at the time, there would be no need for this to go on as long as it has. IMO, they're clearly trying to strike a deal in order to save face. If a deal can't be reached, which I don't think it will, they're just elongated the process on this going to court.

I don't understand what's taking so long either. Shouldn't have the decision been made at the court hearing? If they didn't make a decision at the hearing, what exactly did they accomplish?

actually I think you are full of crap. What has rust to do with as regards rushing the passer? This is not a QB.

As most anyone knows, all athletes get rusty at their sport if they haven't done it for a while. You may disagree but you can do it in a more civilized fashion than calling me "full of crap". It's not like I was trying to get you to believe a total BS story... just sharing my opinion, guy.

I've never played football on any level except in the street, but I always thought that a full training camp/preseason should be sufficient for a guy like Hardy to get back in football shape (considering that he apparently keeps a good workout routine year round). Although McClain probably needed more than that last season... but then again Hardy plays a relatively less physically demanding position than McClain. And I don't think McClain kept in the same shape that Hardy does (I could be wrong, I don't know what McClain's workout habits were before he signed with us). So I guess we'll see. I think he will be good to go when his suspension is over, maybe not exactly All Pro immediately, but he will contribute.

The training camp should indeed be good for Hardy's physical conditioning but then comes the 10 games he'll miss so... so much for that conditioning.

The point the league is trying to make is......they want this to be as painful as possible so every player won't want to go through this "process" of challenging the NFL.

I won't be shocked if this "appeal" drags out for months. Because we all know how busy the court system is.........

It's ridiculious to think he could miss 25 games in all......for a crime he was never convicted of.:(

They're just keeping these abuse stories in the press for a much longer news cycle than they need to be. I don't understand what they think they're doing with it, honestly. It doesn't make people think the league is somehow more serious. People don't pay that close attention. All they think is that the league is constantly fighting a rearguard action against these abuse stories and it paints everybody with a bad PR brush.

They'd be so much better off just letting justice be served through he courts and then getting these players and these families counseling. Making a big donation to anti-violence campaigns and keeping players like Jason Witten moving forward with those causes in a positive light. It's crazy what they're doing, instead.
