Galloway was at WBAP for a long, long time. Greggo worked for him, and it was Galloway that nicknamed him "Hammer."

And the demise of The Ticket is greatly exaggerated. They still destroy the others in the ratings. It's not even a contest. The Fan is kept afloat because they have the Cowboys games, and The Ticket now runs ESPN radio, which has a lot of money behind it. ESPN has gained a little footing since the management at The Ticket took over. Galloway left because he didn't want to work for the station that kicked his behind off the pedestal.

The Ticket just needs a refreshening, not a makeover. The Hardline still wins the ratings, but not with as much authority as before. I could see another show pulled over from ESPN when Rhyner decides to hang it up. Corby will be in limbo, and he'll have to settle in with another show or leave altogether. I don't get the feeling that he's particularly beloved among the other shows.

What killed the Hardline is when Greggo left. His drug dependency issues with pain killers did him in. It was an odd but fascinating mix with him and Rhyner before he spun out of control. He's unrecognizable now, although he's still on Twitter.

Yeah I follow him on twitter. He seems like he wants another chance at The Ticket. I wish they would do a one time reunion. They had so many funny memories together.

Galloway, I'm surprised he's remained retired. I thought he would be back on another station by now. What exactly was the fallout with him and The Ticket? What years was he at The Ticket? In the 90s was it only The Ticket and WBAP covering sports on the radio?

Galloway was at ESPN not the Ticket.

The Fan and the Ticket are basically even in the ratings.

Two years ago the Ticket had more than 2x the ratings of The Fan.

The top rated show of all is the 3 to 6 time on the Fan.

Good post.

It is sad to see the ticket fading to obscurity. They need some new blood. They seem to be following Rhyner's lead of just being out of energy.

Gordo does seem like an SNL type talent; although, he did host a TV show with Cuban one time and it was terrible. I wonder if he has ever tried stand-up.

Sturm for sports and Gordo for comedy are the only ones that would get much interest from other radio stations in terms of getting hired.

Gordo has some talent. But if one ever listened to Steve Martins stand up routines, Gordon sometimes uses some of Martins type routines. A few lines was actually from martins stuff. But Gordos original stuff was delivered like Martin, and comes off very well though.

All 3 morning guys do very good impersonations, fake Jerry, fake Irvin, even fake Parcells, and now Garrett.
But yes, agree they need new blood or new format. Not completely new, but needs changed up some.

Yeah I know he was at ESPN. Did he spend no time at The Ticket before that?

I am just glad Gallowaste and his protege "the little ball of hate" are off the air. Not sure what she does now and don't care, but he ruined her.

That's not true at all on ratings.
The FAN and The Ticket are virtually neck and neck now and when Cowboys season starts the Fan will be finish first by a lot.

In the holy demographic of men 25-54, which pays most of the bills, it was: the Fan 3.5; the Ticket 3.4; and ESPN 2.7.

In men 25-54 from Monday to Friday 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., when the high-priced local talent is behind the mike, it was: Ticket 4.2; Fan 3.9; ESPN 2.5.

Among all listeners regardless of age or gender, a ratings category that the stations disdain, it was: Fan 1.8; Ticket 1.6; ESPN 1.4.

The fall was brought about by ownership changes and big money decisions. They nickel and dimed talent losing a lot of their producers to other stations and just became stale.

ESPN is awful and has only gotten worse.

The Ticket better not try to just use ESPN local talent, they better bring someone in like the Fan did with Gavin Dawson whose GBAG Nation is pumping Mike Bascik and (ticket-ex)Chris Arnold to best in slot ratings almost TWICE what BaD radio gets and 1.5 times what Norm draws.

Galloway trained the Ticket guys.

Galloway and Norm were the guys at the forefront 20 years ago then the The Ticket guys has the genius idea to own/operate their own station.
They were amazing back then.

The Fan ratings are solely pumped up by the Rangers and Cowboys game tie-ins, and they are largely distorted. The higher-ups are not pleased with any of the shows aside from the mid-day. I have friends that are in the know, and I can tell you Ben and Skin and the morning show are ripe for replacement.

There is absolutely no talent on The Fan, and all they do are watered-down rip-offs of what The Ticket does. It's embarrassing, and I don't see how those guys can look in the mirror. They take the same bits, call it something else, and fail miserably at it. I haven't laughed once.

I do like it when they bring Broaddus and Fisher on, and I like Bascik, and they get exclusive access to certain things surrounding the Draft and other things. That's the advantage of being the flagship station, I suppose, but there's no substance behind it.

The problem is, you can NEVER get an objective opinion on the Cowboys or Rangers there, because their primary job is to sell those teams. Sure, they pretend to be critical at times, but it's very softball and insincere.

Look man the Ticket fan boy stuff is fine but you can't paint lips on a pig and call it a model.
The FAN is crushing the Ticket in mid days in the OFFSEASON.
Next month that'll just be embarrassing. The Ticket has owned ratings forever but is now losing.
The fact you didn't realize that speaks to your insider cred.

The FAN morning show is soft for sure but it's the same campy soft crap you love.
SS is un-apologetically WWE with his overhype of everything except it at least has a SPORTS tie-in.
The Musers are all dad jokes and goofball.
I dislike both but the FAN at least has enough Cowboys guest power and Mike Fisher reports to make it worth a listen.
The Musers not only lack current ties to the local teams they don't even like them.

Ben and Skin are young and learning and the kind of show everyone wants. They understand social media and produce tie-ins.
They can be funny but also build relationships with sports personalities.
They have a long ways to go but at least the arrow is pointing up.
Instead of a relationship with 50 year old Troy Aikman they have a relationship with Tony Romo and a dozen other current players.

The Ticket has lost EVERYTHING that made them different or special and become a homogenous mess as one of 480 stations owned by the same media group.

I don't consider the Musers a sports show any longer. Their schedule is completely common, with few segments being sports related (outside of Monday mornings after Cowboys sunday). The ticket is stale. I listen to midday because Sturm, but even he only gets about 10-15 minutes of real sports talk, his quality is in his blog.

I agree with you - the ticket has been on top and hasn't adapted, and is now getting beaten by competition.

excerpted

Oh how the tide has turned in Dallas!

For years, Sports Radio 1310 The Ticket has dominated the market and had competitors questioning whether or not they had made a smart decision to enter the sports talk space.

And rightfully so.

The brand has been highly entertaining, the personalities are authentic, funny, larger than life and the competition was minimal.

But over the past few years, competition has improved, signals carrying sports talk programming have gotten stronger, and the once thought to be untouchable and iconic Ticket, now faces a challenge they’ve not had to deal with before.

Enter 105.3 The Fan.

Owned and operated by CBS, the station launched into the sports talk format in 2008, and has since undergone a few lineup and Program Director changes.

Currently led by Gavin Spittle and featuring Shan & RJ, G-Bag Nation, Ben & Skin and K&C Masterpiece, the station has experienced some bumps and bruises along the way but is now starting to catch fire and become a force with Dallas sports radio listeners.

The Ticket is the best station in Dallas. The Fan is for clowns. ESPN hasn't been the same since Galloway retired even though I like Timmy Mac.

Let me reiterate, The Fan is an amateur clown station.

When Gz
I disagree on Norm.

Sure, he's a committed pro, and a good listen. But he so often takes only contrarian views, much like a Peter King.

Norm is the guy that will rail on Dallas for signing Hardy, but if Philly signed him, he'd talk about how brilliant it was for the Eagles to get a guy that Dallas will have a hard time dealing with.

I've figured out his methods. But I still like him.

I like the post game with the other guy who's name I can't think of. I don't listen any other time. Just post game.
