He was released by the Lions a few months ago and remains unsigned. He would be an ideal pickup for the Cowboys to add a quality veteran at the position. Having heard anything about an injury nor his play falling way off, but it is surprising he remains unsigned.

Contract negotiation w/Lions didn't meet his desires so he became a free agent. Duncanslo brought to my attention he had a past chronic shoulder injury.
But I saw that he has managed this shoulder very effectively the last few years not missing hardly any time.
He would be an extreme starter upgrade over Guyton from day one at left tackle regardless of his shoulder.
He is far and away worth the risk for the management to pull the trigger.

They should do it NOW and try Guyton at Steeles RT spot.
They should do this yesterday.

Nice player but I don’t see it.

After Miller’s contract is finalized, the team is likely to have between $10m-$12m left under the cap. They are required to keep $3m-4m free to cover the 53 man roster expansion (currently only the top 51 count) as well as practice squad and IR.

So, realistically they have around $8m

With that $8m in mind, the cowboys have typically try to keep at least $5m-$7m free to start the season to allow themselves flexibility to replace injured players or make a trade deadline move if something appeals.

Decker is almost certainly not a fit for the team’s current situation. He was scheduled to get $15m base and when the Lions approached him about a pay cut he didn’t even listen. He just asked for his release.

He’s said he still wants to play but is likely waiting to see who has injuries and a deep pocket closer to the season

The only reasonable way to free up cap would be Bland and Ferguson restructures, both of which would make their later years extremely difficult to escape once they decline further than they have.

He is the perfect pickup and that’s been discussed quite a bit. I’m surprised you bring it up, but yeah….unless that shoulder is still blown up, I want him here and badly.

Probably gonna cost more than Stevie wants to pay considering his problem in Detroit was about money. Stephen would rather start a crappy tackle in the event of an injury than spend a few extra million. They always do that, and they always get burned.

That’s the Jones way.

He's about to be 33, has a bad shoulder, and wasn't good last year.

I wouldn't mind him as a swing tackle or whatever (though I doubt he wants to do that) but it's not like he's a real difference maker.

Great work here.

Prepare to have it ignored.

They may not sign him but that is not the reason why. Salary cap is not at all an issue. They can very easily free up some wiggle room if the need were to arise, but they won't even need to do that and will instead likely be rolling money into next year.

Well, not for about another 370 days :)

He didn't play poorly, he just didn't play up to his contract. Also seeing as part of that was assumed to be injury related, that would be more reason to be optimistic. I'm not sure his shoulder is seen as being as bad as it is made out to be in this thread

Makes a lot of sense if he is healthy.

The deal is he wants big $$$. Look at what guys like Diggs, Deebo and Keenan Allen got for sitting out. It just takes one injury from a desperate team he will get paid.

There is 0% change they sign him and kick Guyton to RT after 3 years. It would be a temporary fix and Guyton would just back to LT next season.

Price drops at this time of the year where players are just looking to latch on with a team.

Question is, will he upgrade the position?

1. Training camp sucks
2. He might not want to play anymore

I bet he is picked up just before or after the season starts.

Yup, Everyone does. Let's see what he is looking for now or in a week or two as compared to when he couldn't agree to an amount with Detroit and let's be clear it was mostly money that led to him now being a free agent. If he agreed to take less Detroit would have re-signed him. Then they drafted an OT in the first round and had no use for him

So they wanted him to take a pay cut for no reason?

Yeah, bland and Ferg. Not options

Established vets do not want to go through training camp. Nothing more nothing less. Why rush to jump on a team during the offseason like some undrafted rookie when he can sit tight wait for an injury to happen and maximize his take home pay. Teams are holding on to OL at this point of the season because they don't grow on trees. Look at team transactions throughout the NFL and I'm sure its less than 3 have been cut at the moment.

Dolphins reached out during the offseason but that team isn't going to sniff the post season and Chicago reached out due to Ben Johnson. If I'm Decker, would I go sign and fight for a swing tackle position on the back end of my career or go to a team like Washington who just lost Tunsil and start week 1..
