What is the Deal with Sirius NFL and Roy Williams?

Being a regional marketing rep...hours upon hours are spent in the car for me...Now, today I am listening to Solomon Wilcots and Adam Schein and I am hearing what a tremendous sign Roy Williams is for Cincy.

***?

They are saying what a great hitter he is and how a 5 time pro bowler will assist this defense. Are they talking about the same guy we saw over the past 4 years??? The same guy that teams were not afraid to come across the middle on because he was so worried about getting beat deep that he didn't hit anyone? the same guy that 1...count em...1 team had an interest in?

Am I in a 5 year time warp here or what?

its not beyond the realm of possibililty that Roy will have a good season with Cnici.

Perhaps not everyone thinks he's the worst player in the NFL.

How the people on this forum can't grasp that they've exaggerated Roy Williams' declining play is beyond me. He's obviously declined people, yes.....but not nearly to the extent that many of you have described.

I'm interested to see how Roy does going back to the 4-3 defense with Mike Zimmer. I wish him the best

Does Cincy have to comply with the no horsecollar rule? Roy hasn't been the same since they implemented that. Maybe he can go back to it now that he is not in Dallas.

What's going to help Roy tremendously is that the Steelers and Ravens run the ball A LOT. His strenght is in run support now, so perhaps his coverage liabilities won't be as noticeable.

However, I do wish him nothing but the best of luck. He was one of my favorites while he was here. I really miss those bone jarring hits he use to deliver.

Damn Sirius radio for not agreeing with you.

They were the very ones that use to say how washed up Roy was. They single handedly campaign against Roy making the pro-bowl. Now that he is gone from Big D, they are changing their tunes. I call BS.

I agree that rule change seemed to cut down on Roy's aggressivness, he could rely on it when he was over running the play to reach out and grab the back of the shoulder pads after that he seem to be less aggresive. I think for Roy he has to put that out of his head and play the game as he did before the rule change. Which led to a lot of big hit by him as he aggressively attacked

Moving out of the Bible Belt may help him too lol.

(ok people before I get the 3rd degree I am kidding.)

I am a big fan of Roy and even though his skills have diminished, he is still a good player if you dont have to rely on him in pass coverage too often.

I suppose many here would label me as a big anti-RW guy. I still thought we missed Roy last year at times. Esp when teams tried to run the ball on us.

I think if Roy can get into a system where he will have less cover responsibilities and more run ones he'll do better. He still has to cover and he needs work.

I hope he rededicates himself and really works on his relative weaknesses. I doubt many here really wish him ill.

Maybe it has been exaggerated or maybe it has not. I would think that being (to my knowledge) Cincy was the only team that expressed any interest in a former multi year Pro Bowler who is only 28 years old, that his play must have dropped off significantly.

If Dallas had released him and a bit of bidding war ensued I would have to admit that my assessment of him was wrong, but to me this only reinforces my opinion that his level of play had dropped dramatically.

I don't really want to stoke this debate an further, but while I agree that his level of play has declined, I think it's beyond belief the extent that many people have gone to express their disapproval of Williams. To say that it was exaggerated is fact, not opinion.

Unfortunately for Williams, I think the way the game is played now has been as heavy a burden on his play as has been his extra baggage. He certainly didn't do enough to counter the changes....but it is what it is. I think he'll be OK in Cinci if they can limit his coverage duties.

...and Roy's agent claimed that several teams came knocking....not that he would lie or anything....:D

Roy wouldn't be the first player to ever have a career revival with a change of scenery.

Oh agree that some of the play was exaggerated. People tend to say things such as player so and so "always", "never", "can't", and etcetera which is an over exaggeration.

My point is the play has declined enough for Dallas to release a former #1 pick, Pro Bowler, who is still young, recently signed to a big contract, playing a position of need and then the player on the free market does not generate a big contract or much interest and ends up with the Bengals.

In a court of law, I am sure criminals are on death row with less circumstantial evidence working against them than that.

No argument here....
