While were on the subject of coaches/managers and outfits, I could never figure out why baseball managers have to "suit up" in the complete players uniform, its not like they are going to sub in for one of there players, and it would be ridiculous for the other sports leagues (NFL, NBA, NHL) to have their coaches get dressed like their players.

I think it actually comes from when they used to have player coaches and it kinda became tradition........I know that Bobby Cox wheres cleats still.

Other sports play indoors or the coaches can sit under canopies like in soccer. I know I wouldn't want to stand outside in the cold/rain/snow with a suit on.

They aren't forced to wear them, it's something they wanted to do. I like it. I wish someone would wear a Nike fedorah (or however they spell it)

I saw the 49ers head coach do it on Sunday and then Del Rio last night. It looks dumb. Sure they used to do that stuff, but that is ancient history.

Nolan was wearing a suit made by Reebok for chrissakes.

I was getting ready to say, I can't see it lasting since they are not wearing some sponsored apparel. But low and behold........

I absolutely loved the suits.

They looks so much better than the trashy gear most coaches wear.

Totally agree. This game needs some class.

Nothing wrong with wearing a jacket and tie. Grown ups do it all the time.

From Air America Cowboys, where the supreme sartorial and athletic wear truth is commonly herd and the deer and the antelope damage cars on the highway.

What are you saying about Landry, Lombardi, Gil Steinke, Frank Sinatra and Hank Stram?

Cause I'll fight you man.

I think it looks classy. It does kind of look a bit out of place, considering the environment they're in. In this era, it seems more uncomfortable, especially if it's raining.

Either way looks fine but I guess it'd look a bit odd to see Tommy Lasorda wearing a suit and tie in the dugout.

Conversely, I think lawyers, corporate executives and the secret service agents should wear knit shirts with company or agency logos. Counter culture invasion tactics are in order...

I could care less if coaches wear suits on game day, but I think they would look cooler if they added propeller beanie caps.

Billicheck looks like he just stepped out of one of those Gieco commercials where they are are poking fun at "neanderthal man". Guess who mumbles looks like when he wears that rag?

If the weather is bad they can wear overcoats like they used to- or slickers if it is raining. It adds class to the game that really NEEDS it now.

I'm shocked that people are uninformed on why the 2 coaches wore the suits. Geez, it was only mentioned in every news circle around. Mike Nolan requested permission last year and it was denied by the NFL. It's an old story. The NFL finally granted them permission. I felt it was a good move and they looked good. Why would it bother anyone?

"Bygone era?" You mean where men respected the game? Maybe it shouldn't be "bygone." Just a thought.

I wouldnt say it bothered me but it did look odd and out of place. I for one thought they should be allowed to wear suits if they want but I had to laugh at nolan in his $2000 suit with sneakers, that is too funny. I actually prefer the coaches to wear the team gear. Just my opinion.

Dooms, I have to ask....How would Landry have looked in "team gear?"

Obviously that was Landry and he looked great and I wouldnt want to remember him any other way. Back then it was the style and it was common today the team jackets etc. are typically worn and I just think they fit in to the background better. I just thought Nolan and Del Rio looked out of place. I will also say that Belichek (sp?) is the other extreme, he looked like a homeless person the other day. We all know its done to help sell merchandise what kid doesnt want to wear the same jacket as BP.
