FEATURED What IS working

Good post. I continue to maintain that if Tyron Smith wasn't a bonehead we'd be looking at this thing completely different. A 6-3 record combined with being extremely competitive in the losses (at this point last year we had already been blown out of our socks by the Bears and Seahawks) would have everyone thinking our arrow was pointing up. Instead we're 5-4 with a fan base in the dumps.

Man. That would also give us a 4 game winning streak and a win over a quality team on the road. If-only.

That DET loss really was a gut-stab, though. In part because it marred some really nice victories we strung together, and in part because it looked exactly like what has happened to this team every time it's gotten close to getting over the hump under Jason Garrett. It sucked. I really do understand the negative reactions to it. I just wish people could generally keep it in context a little bit better. NFL seasons are long and they are hard. If we get to the playoffs, we're looking at the same 10-6/9-7 record most of us were looking at at the beginning of the season. The team's playing hard and up to the level of the good competition. Beating the teams we should beat with regularity. We just need to get better in the second half to have any hope of doing damage in the playoffs if we're lucky enough to get there.

Nice post JT. Nice to have some positive posts. Sure we have some warts. Get rid of some mistakes on offense and play better D and we have a shot. I'm not certain we are a SB contender but I wouldn't rule that out if we start playing better.

I hope one day all of these positive vibes sent out actually work.

The most positive thing I hope for is change.

It depends what you mean by 'work.' If you're looking to enjoy the season maybe a little bit more, then they work. If you're thinking that somehow fan sentiment is going to affect the outcomes of games, one way or another, you're going to be disappointed.

Effect the outcome of games? No.. Not most of the time unless it's some stubborn coach playing someone that sucks over someone that is good.

Fans can effect the outcomes of seasons though whenever they stop supporting crap football and winning is made the #1 priority by teams.

As long as we keep giving Jerry money and high TV ratings he has no problem with the product he puts on the field and the coaches he knows he can dictate.

Jerry's going to make money regardless of whatever fan sentiment on message boards happens to be after a devastating win.

Say what you want about the current ownership, but they're doing what they can to try to field a good team. Perhaps they're just not capable of doing it, but it's not like grumpy posts on a message boar are going to somehow lift the veil over Jerry Jones' eyes and get him to try harder or be any more effective.

Its more effective than pumping sunshine...

Ah, but it's not, my fellow Cowboy fan. It doesn't accomplish anything but the diminishing of the enjoyment of your chosen pastime.

It all depends on the type of person you are.

After a decade or so of posting on Cowboys message boards, I'm convinced that there is a good portion of the fan base (population) that is just miserable unless we are winning nearly every game.

I tried talking sense to them by pointing out the positives (much like this thread is), to no avail.

I finally just realized that there is a large segment of people that i wouldn't want to be in a foxhole with, no way, no how.

So now, I pretty much just leave 'em alone and let them lament the losses and the thin margin victories.

I'm not going to change their mind. I just let them talk amongst themselves and I now pretty much see it as white noise.

.

similarly, i am also convinced that there is a group of fans that are content with losing and mediocrity and the status quo

well, count me in the group that wants his favorite team to win rather than the group that is content with losing and mediocrity

lets see which makes more sense

your position or mine
i guess it depends on the kind of person you are

Would you ask that question if we'd beaten Detroit?

i had no, none, count them on less than one hand, delusions we were beating detriot. At no time did i feel confident we were winning that game. the denver game told me all i needed and confirmed my suspicion of this team.

I love this team, I think it has a lot of talent, especially at the most important position, QB, where I think Tony is one of the absolute best in the league. I give all the credit in the world to Jerry and Jason in that regard. I also think this team should have been a playoff team the last two years and should have a better record right now. I think a better head coach would have gotten us at least that.

As a person, I like Jason, I love his philosophy in building a team, I love that the players fight until the final whistle, I just wish he was a better head coach on gameday, I wish he would prepare the team better and not come out cold in the first half just to turn it on in the 4th quarter, I wish he would make better decisions late in games, I wish his offense was more creative and move players like Dez around and not just send him into the same double coverage each and every play, I wish we had a running game, I mean this is the 3th year and it's only gotten worse.

This team should be better, I know they have the players to be better, but they just can't get over the hump. I certainly hope they can this year and winning against NO would go a long way toward doing that, but I just don't trust Jason.

I hope I'm wrong.

Couldn´t have said it better myself, great post man.
