What is worse: 3x 8-8 or 3x 5-11

8-8 is worse no question.

Though each of these seasons we played a meaningful game in December so i'd take that.

But in a vacuum it's always better to be worse since the draft rewards failure.

Here are the draft picks for those talking about the higher draft picks during the Campo 5-11 years. There are a few names that we all remember for the wrong reasons and many we do not recall at all. And there were a few decent picks. It is one thing to have picks and another knowing what to do with them. The poor drafts added to the despair many fans felt at the time. In addition I think many here forgot Dallas did not have first round picks in 2000 and 2001.

I also included Parcell's first draft.

2000

2. Dwayne Goodrich Cornerback
4. Kareem Larrimore Cornerback
5. Michael Wiley Running Back
6. Mario Edwards Cornerback
7. Orantes Grant Linebacker

2001

2. Quincy Carter Quarterback
2. Tony Dixon Safety
3. Willie Blade Defensive Tackle
4. Markus Steele Linebacker
5. Matt Lehr Guard
6. Daleroy Stewart Defensive Tackle
7. Colston Weatherington Defensive End
7. John Nix Defensive Tackle
7. Char-ron Dorsey Offensive Tackle

2002

1. Roy Williams Safety
2. Andre Gurode Center
2. Antonio Bryant Wide Receiver
3. Derek Ross Cornerback
4. Jamar Martin Fullback
5. Pete Hunter Defensive Back
6. Tyson Walter Guard
6. Deveren Johnson Wide Receiver
6. Bob Slowikowski Tight End

2003 (Parcells)

1. Terence Newman Cornerback
2. Al Johnson Center
3. Jason Witten Tight End
4. Bradie James Linebacker
6. B. J. Tucker Cornerback
6. Zuriel Smith Wide Receiver
7. Justin Bates Guard

So your position is to win a couple of meaningless games because the GM will pick the wrong player? Does it occur that Campo may not have had the gumption to challenge Jerry on the crap he wanted to draft?

They are two separate issues, although I understand how you might link them. But in the final analysis, even with Coach Jones calling the drafts, there is still a higher propensity in choosing the right guy.

I am not arguing either is worse. I am asking which was worse for you as a fan. For me it was the Campo era.

If you're one of the many fans (like me) who watches every game, every year, then it's not even a question. Clearly 8-8 is preferable over 5-11. I'd rather see my team win 24 games over that 3 year span than 15.

And all of this talk about 5-11 = better draft picks, etc, is straight up poppycock. The draft is FAR from an exact science and much more of a crap shoot than most on here want to admit. Look at the perennial bottom of the barrel teams that have high picks nearly every year and blow them over and over.
5-11 8-8... Neither of those has a chance to win anything in the playoffs. The only difference is draft position. The higher the pick, the better the odds of hitting on a prospect.
