Country.. uck
I can't relate to any country song. I just have no connection with it, and I'm not a fan of that twangy sound. Or what the male singers do with their voice..
There are a few Country songs I like (mostly Female vocals). Must most of them cross over into the pop genre.
Best I Ever Had (Gary Allen) is one of the few Male Vocal country songs that I like. It is even chuck full of that twang sound. Vertical Horizon has a version of the song called Grey Sky Morning and it's better, then again it's their song. Allen's is a cover.
Rap is another one of those Genre's I cannot relate to at all. I'd definitely say I like more country songs than anything hip/hop/rap/R&B.
I don't know that I would say I have a "favorite" Music. The majority of what I listen to is a mix of Alt/Rock. But honestly if I like a song, I like it.
There are country/rap songs that I like. There are songs by bands that I absolutely detest (whether it be their general sound, or what they stand for) that I really enjoy. Creed comes to mind. Hate them, but they have like 4 songs I really like.
Sometimes there are songs I can't even relate to at all, and I think the lyrics make them idiotic, that I like (Average Girl by Barlow Girl comes to mind).
There are a lot of foreign songs that I like, and I don't even know what they are saying (a lot of Japanese, Russian, and German).
I've been getting into a lot of Goth Metal sort of stuff. Nightwish (Tarja era), Power Symphony, etc.
One fairly consistent theme I find about songs I like though is they generally have strong vocals. It's why I like Acoustic versions of songs so much. I like a lot of highs and lows and changing/elevating in the vocals. I want the vocals to dominate the instruments, not the other way around.
It's one reason why Maynard James Keenan (Tool, A Perfect Circle) has some of my favorite songs, but I don't like the majority of his bands' music. The songs in which his vocals really dominate the music are simply amazing, but the majority of his music is dominated by the instruments and I simply don't like them very much.
There are several orchestra/instrumental songs that I like though. I like a lot of Movie Themes (Gladiator and The Rock themes come to mind). I like a fair amount of classical orchestra music, but only if they are sad sounding. I hate happy sounding classical music.
But yeah.. If I like it I like it.. I don't really like songs based on genre or who sings them.
Linkin Park (Whom I'm not a huge fan of especially lately) and Disturbed are the only 2 bands to ever produce an album in which I enjoyed every single song.
