I am going to refine my realistic wish list. Obviously I'd like Berry or some other high priced guy but that's not us:

Back - Claiborne, Wilcox, Butler, Irving, McFadden, Cooper
New - Addison, Jefferson, Kirkpatrick, Floyd/Ginn

Draft (you said wishlist):

1st - Barnett, DE, UT or McKinley, DE, UCLA
2nd - Douglas, CB, WVU
3rd - Jones, DT, ND
4th - Cannon, WR, Baylor

Rough roster:

QB - Prescott, Moore
TB - Elliott, McFadden
TE - Witten, ?????
OT - Smith, Free (I know, I know), Green
OGs - Martin, Collins, Cooper
C - Frederick
WRs - Bryant, Floyd/Ginn, Beasley, Butler, Cannon

DEs - Addison, Mayowa, Irving, Lawrence, Tapper, Barnett/McKinley
DTs - Collins, Jones, Thornton, Crawford
LBs - Lee, Smith, Wilson, Hitchens
S - Jones, Jefferson, Wilcox, Heath
CB - Claiborne, Brown, Scandrick, Kirkpatrick (yes, I know) and Douglas

A more realistic list than some folks.

A more realistic list than some folks.

I would certainly love a guy like Berry or a CB like a Johnson but history tells us Stephen isn't the type to go crazy in free agency. Kirkpatrick is probably a reach too price wise, in reality.

I think we have to focus on mid-level guys. Spotrac gives estimates for free agents but I have no idea how close to reality they come when projecting salaries. Sheard is listed as an average of $8.2MM a year and Addison at $7.1MM. Even those might be too pricey.

Yeah, those two guys might be a bit to costly, but would love to see the Cowboys add one of them.

We only have 6 or 7 picks.? ;)

I am not sure about the exact number of picks we have. I think 7 picks but no 5th rounder and two 7s.

I would sure like to see what is available at our 1st and second round picks and if we aren't wowed by that player slide back a few spots and pick up a couple of bonus picks. I'm not saying pass on a stud, if available, but if we aren't wowed by the players available and we know we can get someone out of our target list without dropping a tier move back.

I would love to see us use one of the acquired picks to get a guy like Mixon or Dede Westbrook or a stud 1 tech with that extra pick.

I think a huge part of our strategy will be based on what our staff thinks of the projected health of Tapper and Lawrence and the development of Irving. If they believe in those guys they might wait around on a developmental DE somewhere in the top 4 rounds to compete.

If they think a developmental rookie DE can't beat out Mayowa, Irving, Tapper and Lawrence and the health of Lawrence and Tapper is a no go then they might move up to get a pass rusher at DE.

Personally i would probably not move up in this draft. If we could get a pocket collapsing 1 tech it would greatly benefit the pass rush.

7. As you said no 5th and two 7ths.

And hell no on Mixon or Westbrook. Not touching those two clowns with a ten foot pole.

Adding a QB like Mahomes (or whoever they deem to be the next Dak Prescott) anytime after the 3rd would be great too with the added pick.

Understanding it is a WISH list and free agency occurs before the draft, meaning that you will have to resign some of your own free agents because you have no clue what will happen in the draft.

Resign Brandon Carr CB - not flashy, not a shutdown, reliable, always on the field and a better DL makes him better
Resign Morris Claiborne CB (maybe) - was having a career year and maybe he finally is the guy we all hoped 5 years ago but only for team money, nothing else
Resign Terrell McClain DT - played well this year and not sure we will be looking early in the draft for one
Resign Jonathan Copper OG - only if the coaches think they have something in him could be a good reclamation project
Resign Darren McFadden RB - as a backup very valuable and will take team money, forget the hype on Peterson-never going to happen
Resign Kellen Moore QB - have to have a backup QB and regardless of what we want/think Romo is gone
Resign Barry Church S - for the right price only, good team leader and locker room guy
Sign a WR that could be a #2 or better in free agency
Sign a DE that would be/could be a get to the QB guy like kid from Carolina
Sign a CB with potential in free agency
**not expecting anything big in free agency like a Eric Berry or JPP or anything like that, best thing might be a trade involving Romo for more than we expect

Draft hopefully goes DE, CB, WR, DE, OL, RB, CB
My problem with the draft is that drafting at 28 will not give us a "make a difference" DE in the 1st, may have to find a guy in rounds 2 or 3 that have great upside that pays off.

Your free agency list is fine. I would let Church walk. I think he is just a guy, over rated and costs way too much. He is the definition of a progress stopper. We need to move on from those.

I don't see any way we get a DE in free agency that gets to the QB on our projected budget. I like the way you think. I just don't see it happening unless we get an aging vet that wants to be a pass rushing specialist who is willing to come here cheap to get a chance at a ring.

You aren't going to bring back Carr and Claiborne and then sign another FA CB then draft a CB.

Further, bringing back the exact same secondary is criminal IMO. Time to mix it up, especially the starting rotation.

Id like
Carr resigned ( never thought Id type that)
Draft another CB ( Love to find a shut down CB in this draft)
Draft a SS ( Respect Church but Im looking to upgrade) or someway somehow get Berry from Chiefs
Jaylon Smith to be 100% ( I said wish list)
Draft or sign a RDE
Draft a 1 Tech to go along side Collins ( Push that pocket in opposing QBs laps) it also allows General Lee Jaylon and Wilson to be tackling machines
Draft or sign another LDE for rotation with Irvin and Lawrence

Replace Lucky A.K.A "run sideways" Whitehead with a speed demon puint and kickoff returner
Draft another WR I think we can upgrade from T Will
Draft a TE (I think this is the Hall of Famers last season) would love for Rico to step up.
Take a chance in the late rounds on Mixon I'm done with Lance
Look a RT in the later rounds.
Hire a coach that handles game time management

What are some of your off season wish list

Healthy Jaylon

Sign Dware to a reasonable contract

Sign Cordarrelle Patterson. This fixes our Punt and Kick Return, and finally gives us a speed demon deep threat.

Resign Carr and Church

Draft a DE or CB in the draft.

Bouye is a UCF guy, I love Central Florida players and like their tough nose style.
He was a UDFA in 2013 and a FA now,, I want to jump on this kid early, other teams will be very interested, and his contract will demand a pay day, but would rather have him than re sign Mo,, maybe cheaper.
Check him out,, should be our number one priority fa target from what I'm hearing early.
Big name targets will not be a priority, unless we miss,, Cowboys will shop smart on player adds like this.

Sign 1 elite type free agent. It does not have to be a specific position. I prefer DE or CB, but it could be Safety or DT. Maybe Trumaine Johnson at CB or Chandler Jones at DE if he is not Franchised or Dontrai Poe at DT. Many people keeping suggesting Berry at SS, but he seems like the least likely free agent to leave his current team.
Sign 1 mid-level free agent like Terrelle Pryor.
Fill in by re-signing some of the Cowboys own free agents.
Draft BPA with a lean toward defense and WR. Maybe OT.

Alternate plan:
Sign 3 above average free agents. Somebody like Nick Perry at DE and A.J. Bouye at CB and Terrelle Pryor at WR.
Fill in by re-signing some of the Cowboys own free agents.
Draft BPA with a lean toward defense and WR. Maybe OT.

Bouye is one of the most sought after CBs in FA. He's going to get paid. WAAAAAAAAYYYYYY MORE than Claiborne.

For example, Spotrac estimates contract values and they have Bouye in excess of $11MM per year.
