Sign 1 elite type free agent. It does not have to be a specific position. I prefer DE or CB, but it could be Safety or DT. Maybe Trumaine Johnson at CB or Chandler Jones at DE if he is not Franchised or Dontrai Poe at DT. Many people keeping suggesting Berry at SS, but he seems like the least likely free agent to leave his current team.
Sign 1 mid-level free agent like Terrelle Pryor.
Fill in by re-signing some of the Cowboys own free agents.
Draft BPA with a lean toward defense and WR. Maybe OT.

Alternate plan:
Sign 3 above average free agents. Somebody like Nick Perry at DE and A.J. Bouye at CB and Terrelle Pryor at WR.
Fill in by re-signing some of the Cowboys own free agents.
Draft BPA with a lean toward defense and WR. Maybe OT.

What constitutes mid-level FA? I saw one report Pryor could getting close to $10MM annually. That's a heavy chunk of change.

I guess mid-level to me would be a player that gets about 1/2 the average of the top player at the position. That's probably about 7M for WRs.

I'll be surprised if Pryor gets 10M average. If he does, then move on. He might never make it to FA anyway because Cleveland will try to re-sign him before he hits the open market.

If it was a choice between Pryor and TWill at the same price, I would go with Pryor.

Last year Sanu got a 5-year, 32M contract (6.4M average). That seems like what TWill and Pryor will get.

My offseason wish list is that instead of making a few inconsequential FA signings we sign one really good one. I also hope Romo is traded prior to the draft.

Pryor is getting way more hype than Sanu did. Sanu was always considered a solid #2. Pryor is viewed as a potential #1. He's going to get way more than Sanu IMO.

I wouldn't mind overpaying him a bit if he checks out in terms of mental makeup. The 10M number still seems high considering that he only really played WR for 1 year.

Drafting a DE, DT and CB. Resigning at least half of our free agents especially on the secondary. Let Romo go as a post June cut and use that money on D.

If they could get their #2 QB in the 4th round, it would be great for several reasons.
The #2 can be a developmental QB and the primary backup. No need to carry 3 QBs.
It would cost less than a veteran. It would definitely cost less than a veteran #2 + a 3rd young QB on the roster.
Most veteran backups suck.
If that 4th round pick if really good, then by his 3rd or 4th season, other teams would trade for him.

Yes, 1 elite player would make a huge difference.

It's difficult because I'm not sure any elite DEs will even be available. Some will get franchised or re-signed by their team before free agency starts. There really are not many anyway.

There might be more options at CB or DT. Poe and Short at DT. At CB T.Johnson has already been franchised once by his current team.

And in that first year playing WR, he put up 1,000 yards on a cruddy team that had no QB.

He's going to get paid. A ton.

My wish list would consist of us making a safe, smart pick with our #2 in the draft instead of risking it on an injured player or a drug addict. That's not too much to ask for is it?
