What it would cost to bring back Dowdle

I think there's something to be said for an undrafted guy who comes in and fights for four years before he gets his chance. It's not flashy but he continued to grind his way towards playing time.

More importantly, when given the chance he performed pretty well on a less than impressive offensive unit.

My biggest question with Rico is can he remain healthy.

I think a speed draft pick like Dylan Sampson would go a long way to spelling Dowdle who’s more between the tackles .

There is a glut of RBs available in free agency that will do the job that RIco would for about 3m per year. Yes, a couple backs are getting paid, but the guys that are just average RBs are getting $2-4 million, I dont mind resigning Rico, but I would not pay more than 4m a year for him. RB is a position that is an easy transition from college.

If you draft a RB in the top 100, you don’t want to be paying a veteran QB biigger free agent money to be the back up. We can afford to be patient at RB free agency. See what Dowdle commands, and then try to sign him if it’s reasonable, or sign a cheaper vet.

We have about 10 with the expected comp picks.

With the state of the defense use no more then one pick on RB and bring back Dowdle to go with him . And since Dak restructured his ridiculous contract bring Kendrick’s Lawson & Lewis back to help spread the draft picks further . Dowdle Kendrick’s Lawson Lewis and now OSA have all contributed

You could do three years with apy around 6 but like 10 guaranteed. Something like that would be worth it imo.
It’s cheaper to draft RB1 in the 1st.

17M and a 5th year option.

They can pickup RB2 in FA at league min. 1M

You would have to be insane to sign him to more than 2 million per year, or osa for more than $8 million per

Rico is one of our guys. We preference our guys over other veterans and rookies. Jerry and Stephen know him, feel comfortable around him, and can take credit for discovering him. He is exactly the kind of player we like to keep. He deserves a pay bump within reason. We should offer him a 2 year deal for 9M. If someone wants to do better, then fine. He can make a decision. We need to 2 Rbs. So giving him some money doesn't mean we don't draft a rookie. There a ton of good backs coming into the league next year. It would be ideal if we had some flexibity. We can't go into the draft with nothing in the backfield which just telegraphs to the rest of the league our desperation and gives other teams time to plan and maneuver. Thats how you get jumped and lose out on players in the draft.
