What Kind of Start Would it Take to bench the QB?

But what kind of start would it take for the Cowboys to bench Dakota?

Do you think it's possible that he loses three games in a row, to start, and then remains a starter?

Have you seen Dak's contract?

Dude could throw 20 picks and still would not get benched.

And if the season is a complete disaster, like an 0-6 start, it will be Fat Mike heading out the door, not Dak.

Nothing will remove him as the starter. We do not have a QB competition on this team.

This is what has to happen for the Cowboys to move on from Dak. Because I think that's what this is ultimately about.

The Jones boys have to come to the conclusion they no longer want Dak as a starter after this season. Not restructure his contract for 2023 and he plays at a 49M cap hit. The same for 2024 and he plays at a 52M cap hit. Then they can release or trade him in 2025 at a 24M dead cap if I'm not mistaken.

How bad would Dak have to play for that to happen? They are all in, neck deep behind Dak. So better to hope the team improves around Dak. The alternative isn't pretty.

There’s never been a point where Dak has played poorly enough to where he should be benched. Although his play dropped off the second half of last season it wasn’t to the level where anyone was saying maybe we should take a look at Cooper Rush. He gives us the edge over the teams in our division because none of them have a QB of his caliber. I’m sure plenty of his haters will be pulling against him, hoping he’ll cost us games because that’s the kind of idiots we have here. They’ll take losing every week if they think it will lead to changes with the team and at QB.

I wasn't saying you bench him for the whole season. Or that they even would bench him. I was saying at 3 losses and zero wins, you at least have to start talking about it. I don't care if you're Jerry, or MM, or whoever..

Like someone else said, it depends on if the losses were on Dak.. Maybe the defense gives up too many points, and, OK, that's not Dak's fault..

And, like I said, this is strictly a hypothetical post... I don't think they would pull him either. For the same reasons everyone else is saying. I'm just testing how strong my theory is...

So he puts up some nice stats in the first five games. Those stats alone will be enough for him to keep his job. We can go 0-5 and Dak will still be our starter.

I think it's a total team collapse. Everybody keeps talking about Dak in regard to the first half and 2nd half of the season. But the issue is who we're playing, and nothing else. When the Cowboys jump on a team and dominates them, everyone looks good. But when a team punches back, no one looks good. Remember, Atlanta was part of that second half season, and they didn't have a problem with them. Nor did they with other trash in the second half. Halfway decent teams gave us a problem no matter when we played them.

IMO your theory is too broad. What would it take to start Cooper Rush over Dak? The answer, a concussion. Or any other injury sidelining him. Not an 0-3 start. Not an 0-10 start. Starting Cooper Rush because our team, or Dak is playing poorly is akin to trying to put out a fire with gasoline. You're just making a bad situation worse.

You can ask this question about the Eagles or Commies, but the Cowboys do not have a QB situation where benching our starter is an option.

You're talking about a FO that kept a one legged Zeke playing just because he gets paid big money.... they will keep Dak in regardless of what the team record is throughout the season not just the first three games. Only way he is out will be if his right arm falls off. They've hitched their wagon to Dak for the next several years and they will either succeed or fail with him.

All true AC and this year Dak will have a full off-season to work on his game instead of rehabbing an injury.

If the O line can hold up and that's a big if I think he should have a good start to this year.

Intelligent fans should worry about the offensive line as it is what let us down last year especially with penalties and drafting the college holding champion is a suspect solution in my mind.
No quarterback can be successful when continually starting series behind the chains with a penalty prone offensive line.
