Waters isn't coming for less than Moore would have signed for. He turned down $4m from the Pats.
I think people are panicking too much about the guard position. First off, most of the reports from camp about Arkin have been pretty good and he looked good in the game. Secondly, Bernadeau has just got on the practice field, so let's give him a little time to get into the swing of things before we start poo pooing him as a legit starter there. Broaddus, who has been skeptical about Arkin, says he has improved quite a bit and also states that Bernadeau is better than him. We might be ok as we are.
Finally, there will be viable candidates that are cut for one reason or another. Too much money as a backup, etc. If there is a need, we can get someone without giving up a draft pick and without throwing out obscene money.
You have a point about Arkin. He has improved. I don't see that he has improved enough to start this year. He still needs strength. Bernadeau is totally different. There is a good reason not to trust him as a starter. He has no history of being starter quality in this league. He was benched in Carolina for the same reasons that he has failed in Dallas. He is a soft player that can't be counted on to perform at a decent level for two plays in a row. Add his injuries to his resume and he quickly becomes a player that has no business being on a quality line. He will always be a weak link.
