What Makes Anyone Think Dak is Worth More Than Cousins?

Kirk has been a better player for a long time.

Dak should not make 1 cent more than him. It's unfortunate we've been paying him more the last few years.

Cousins is getting 45 million a year with his new contract in Atlanta.

His average season with Minnesota was 30 TDs and 10 INTs.

Daks average season is 28 TDs and 10 INTs.

At the time of his injury last season Cousins was on pace for 38 TDs, 11 INTs, and 4,950 yards.

Thats 500 more yards, 2 more TDs, and only 2 more INTs than Daks runner up MVP season.

Through the first 8 games for Dak, before Cousins injury, Dak had 2,011 yards, 13 TDs, and 5 INTs while Cousins had 2,331 yards, 18 TDs, and 5 INTs.

Is it the injury? Age? Big whoop.Cousins will be his consistent self next year just like he always is while who knows what we’re going to get from Dak with the drama and roster shakeup hovering around.

Both guys do nothing in the playoffs, so that’s pointless to argue.

Basically, there is no universe where Dak should be making over 15 million a year more than Cousins, who has always been the better and more consistent QB between the two.
I would say that this is a fairly close comparison. Baker Mayfield isn’t far off either. You might even lump Joe Flacco in that same skill level grouping.

MC, I’m tired of Dak’s underachievement here in Dallas. But your assertion that Cousins and Dak are either the same or somehow Cousins is “better” in statistically incorrect.

In 17 head to head categories, Dak has better stats in 9-10 areas, including less INTs, better completion %, less losses (by far), has one All Pro season compared to zero for Cousins, and has 2 playoff wins to Cousins 1* (Crrected after prior mistake on my part) They are similar in many ways but asserting that Cousins is better statistically is incorrect.

Read this head to head comparisons:
https://stathead.com/football/vs/kirk-cousins-vs-dak-prescott

Whether Dak “deserves” more than Cousins is arguable. Arguing that Dak is the same or worse than Cousins is not Apples to apples. The inflated contracts for all starting NFL QBs is not unique to Dak or Cousins. It’s simple economic market supply and demand. The demand for even decent QBs is high, while the supply is extremely low. Thus QBs are overpaid. These QBs are not being “greedy”. It’s simple economics.
They are the same guy no matter how you slice it.

It all comes down to how much do you feel the QB you have is worth to your team. Anyone who thinks the Cowboys will be a better team with a cheaper QB that isn’t as good as Dak is lost. The notion that we can build a great team around a lesser QB and still win a championship is silly. The Cowboys will never have a team good enough to do that.

Well we can’t win with him either, so that argument is flushed down the toilet. KJJ and AC will forever go down with a sinking ship. They can’t come to terms with the fact that Dak just isn’t it, matter of fact we have a good w-l when he’s not at QB and we have a healthy team. Can’t bring Redcaroet into it bc he had no line, no wide receivers, etc. dak wouldn’t have won with Daltons team, he couldn’t win with his oline when it was healthy before he got hurt. So the only truth is watching his backup lead a team to wins when he got his boo-boo on his thumb.

No QB outside of Mahomes, is worth what these guys are getting. It's nuts!
And yes, I would take it in their position lol. Lamar '2x MVP' Jackson, is still sitting on 2 playoffs wins like Dak, plus a pile of money. Danny Dimes got $45 million, the same as Cousins. What is Watson getting in Cleveland again? Post extension, the talented Justin Herbert is still .500 in the regular season and 0-1 in the playoffs.

If the barometer is playoff success and Championships as it should be...again, there is Mahomes and everyone else.

When did Dak get a contract with an average annual value over $45,000,000?

1. Dak Prescott's record as a starter is 73-41

Cousins is 76-67-2

2. Dak's record vs winning teams is 28-34

Cousins is 16-47

3. Dak has won 2 playoff games

Cousins has won one.

Neither quarterback is elite, but production is clearly separates the two. Dak is a better quarterback than Cousins, period.

The real question is how can Cousins make a half billion dollars with just one playoff win and a horrible record vs winning teams and don't get the hate that Dak gets and he has better production over the course of their careers.

Make that make sense.

Dak literally just finished 2nd in the MVP race. Please delete.

Cousins is better than dak. At one time they were pretty equal imo

Starting career records.... Dak 73-41 Cousins 76-67-2

Records vs winning teams..... Dak 28-34 Cousins 16-47

Playoff wins.... Dak 2 Cousins 1

They both aren't elite, but what shows Cousins is better? Dak was a starter his whole career, Cousins couldn't even beat out RG3 in the beginning.... Cousins was drafted in the 2nd round, Dak was drafted in the 4th round.....

if Cousins is so great, why is he working on his 3rd team?

Your math ain't mathin.....

If everything is equal why would you take Dak when Cousins has put up almost identical numbers with FAR less talent?

Yes, let's take the quarteback who has put up (x) numbers with a vastly superior team vs the quarterback who puts up similar numbers with far less talent....and the second one has slightly better post season stats to boot. Literally makes no sense besides for blind loyalty.

Agree with the second half of your statement
A bit younger and not coming off a torn achilles, that's it.

Cousins has never been gifted good teams like the choker.

Ahhhh.... the ol "gifted good teams" bs. I was told on this great forum that "a quarterback is supposed to elevate the talent around him".....

So I don't want to hear the excuses of the team around him. Cousins should have elevated those teams. If that's the standard one quarterback is held to, then that goes for them ALL.

Now can you please put that goalpost down and I respectfully ask, that you not move it again.

Definitely a thread for the Dak haters, but its a fair question on how much better Dak really is than him. Stats have been very similar, but I certainly believe Dak is the better player. I give Dak an edge because of his better career record, scrambling/escapability, and he's also a Cowboy :).

However, is he 15 million better, I'm not so sure, but he is 5 years younger and that is a big deal in the NFL even if you think both talents are similar.
